In discussion with Strafe Esports’ Ganesh and Zen, we’ve assembled a list of the top-rated Valorant players in based roles categories. The categories are Flex, IGL, Entry, Site Anchor, OPer, Recon and Controller. Picks and roles are subjective.

Every team has a star, and supportive elements that enable them to shine. While great deserved attention goes to the stars, the supports, the site anchors, the role players are here to be recognized as well. Without them, sites would crumble quickly, and retakes would be nigh impossible. Without further ado, here is the Strafe Esports 2022 Top 5 Site Anchors Pro Players.

Felipe “Less” Basso (1)

At the tender age of 17, few have figured their path in life, much less win a Championship in your second year of professional play. For “Less” though, it seemed only natural. On a team entitled LOUD, the unassuming support player for the roster is not oft considered the star of the team, with players with louder personalities facing the crowd. And yet, “Less” might be the silent best player on that roster, with assertions from other players placing him as one of the hardest site anchors to pin down.

Kim “MaKo” Myeong-kwan (2)

Little needs to be said on the Beast from the East that is “MaKo”. Already touted as one of the best controller players in the world and a premier player for DRX, “MaKo” often doubles up as the sole site anchor for DRX. On Viper and Astra especially, he enables his team with great time delays and a difficulty to pin him down on site.

Dmitry “SUYGETSU” Ilyushin (3)

20-years-old and already one of the best sentinels in the world, “SUYGETSU” exploded late onto the international stage due to visa delays at Masters: Copenhagen. But once he was arrived, it was clear he was the real deal. Boasting one of the best Cyphers in the world, he currently has a 57.3% winrate according to tracker.gg. Such mastery was on full display during his two international showings, impressing pundits on FPX’s sentinel player.

Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen (4)

Another entry to have made two lists, “Marved” is indisputably the most accomplished controller player NA has produced thus far. Popularizing Omen especially, his quick decision making and well-timed plays, coupled with a daring nature, has made him one of the crowd favorites to watch. Especially when anchoring site, it is unusual to see “Marved” go down without taking at least one to two with him, earning his a tough to kill moniker as well.

Brenden “stellar” McGrath (5)

“stellar” has shown stellar growth this year, both as an In-Game Leader for 100 Thieves, but also as a player. Often outshined by larger personalities on the roster, he is oft forgotten in the little wanted roles, however, he is one of the best at them. Shining on Sage, Viper and Cypher, “stellar” uses well-timed intuition and utility to secure round wins for his team. He does his job quietly and he does it well.

Honorable mention: Panyawat “sushiboys” Subsiriroj

In 2022, Xerxia’s rise to popularity came about with their international debut at Masters Reykjavik. After beating Optic in the group stage, people began taking notice of them. And one of the best players on the roster, has to go to the indomitable “sushiboys”. Having mastered Cypher and Killjoy especially, Xerxia’s defense side especially shone due to his contributions.

Stay tuned for more top five for other roles.
