Malr1ne Banned From Dota 2: A Mostly Harmless Mistake
Dota 2 has seen many funny stories, but few are as absurd as Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak getting banned from Dota 2. After making headlines as a new International champion, he also did so as a victim of Valve’s ruthless automated ban system.
Malr1ne was banned from Dota 2 by mistake — and it happened right in the middle of two major tournaments. The situation blew up fast. His friend and teammate Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf confirmed the ban on social media.
Malr1ne Banned From Dota 2 — by Accident
In a clip shared on ATF’s Telegram Channel, the moment quickly turned into a running joke. Ammar teased his teammate, claiming Malr1ne got a VAC ban after “winning TI with cheats”. It wasn’t related to any cheating system — just Valve’s automated detection going rogue.
A Reddit thread even highlights the confusion between a VAC and a regular game ban. The situation looked real enough to fool a lot of people, but the video and the screen capture below show that it was indeed a game ban.
Team Falcons Stayed Calm
Fortunately for Malr1ne, Team Falcons had already advanced past the Group Stage at FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2. That gave him some breathing room, as the team wouldn’t play again until October 28th. Valve reversed the ban before the playoffs began, allowing him to return just in time for the next match.
Still, the break may have thrown off their rhythm. Falcons lost 2-0 to MOUZ in their first playoff series. While it’s impossible to say if the ban directly affected their form, losing valuable practice time never helps — especially for a team trying to defend its reputation as a top contender.
If Falcons hope to reach the Grand Finals, they’ll have to fight their way through the Lower Bracket. Malr1ne’s brief ban became an inside joke among Dota 2 fans, but it also reminded players how fragile automated systems can be, especially when tied to a professional scene with live events.
Unbanned Just In Time to Watch a Movie
Once Valve lifted the ban, most fans expected Malr1ne to jump straight back into ranked or scrims. Instead, he surprised everyone again. Oliver “skiter” Lepko, posted a photo on Instagram showing Malr1ne already unbanned — but watching Twilight instead of practicing.
Getting Back on Track
Now that Malr1ne is unbanned from Dota 2, it’s time to focus again. Team Falcons will face Tundra Esports on October 31st in the Lower Bracket of FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2. The loser goes home, while the winner moves one step closer to the title.
Once FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2 ends, Falcons will jump right into BLAST Slam IV. Thanks to their stellar Group Stage performance, they earned a direct seed into the Upper Bracket Semifinals. Their next appearance will be on November 8th, giving them a valuable window to regroup.
