To the delight of both North American and South American CS:GO enthusiasts, the American RMR qualifier for IEM Rio Major has ended with favorable results for the best teams from both regions.

Given the prestige of the tournament, everyone wanted to see how Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses would perform against the likes of Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, and Team Vitality. And both of them did well in the qualifier, finishing with a record of 3 W – 0 L.

However, there was only one Legend Status ticket reserved for the region, so a tiebreaker had to be played to determine the winner. At the end of a grueling match that required a lot of overtime rounds, Liquid triumphed. This means that they will skip The Challengers Stage of IEM Rio Major and start competing only in The Legends Stage.

Qualified Teams

In total, six teams qualified for the upcoming CS:GO Major out of this region:

  • Team Liquid
  • Evil Geniuses
  • 9z Team
  • 00NATION
  • FURIA Esports
  • Imperial Esports

Two of them are from North America while the other four are from South America. 00NATIOn and 9z Team have part Brazilian and part Argentinian rosters, while FURIA and Imperial have 100% Brazilian rosters. This will most likely bring a lot of spectators to see the live action.

We already know that the tickets for the tournament got sold in just one hour, but large groups of people who didn’t manage to buy one will probably meet in pubs to watch the matches. In Brazil, this is standard practice for football matches, so we shouldn’t be surprised if it happens for CS:GO ones as well.

Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, Marcelo “coldzera”, and David, Epitacio “TACO” de Melo are among the most beloved esports players in Brazil. The three of them used to compete as part of the same team but this time they will play for different organizations.

FalleN represents Imperial and is their IGL, while coldzera and TACO play for 00NATION.

The Odds of IEM Rio Major Being Won by an American Team

Arguably, there are better teams than 00NATION, Imperial, Evil Geniuses, and even Team Liquid at IEM Rio Major. But that won’t stop them from trying to win. We know from experience that in front of their own fans, teams can dramatically improve their performance levels.

Cloud9 are the perfect example of this. In 2018, they won the ELEAGUE Major in front of their home crowd in Boston, even though FaZe Clan were regarded as being the clear favorites.

The American team with the highest chance of winning the IEM Rio Major has to be Liquid. They’ve already won lots of S-tier tournaments. Just recently, they played in the Grand Final of ESL Pro League Season 16. This team has all the firepower and leadership it needs to claim the trophy, but it will be very difficult in the current environment.
