At the VCT Pacific superweek, GenG took on Paper Rex for the fate of the second seed. In the best-of-three series, GenG unfortunately lost to Paper Rex. After the loss, Strafe interviewed GenG’s Kim “GodDead” Sung-sin. In an exclusive one-on-one interview, GenG GodDead talks about the game, personal performance, team’s issues and more.

Q. First of all, sorry for your loss. Can you reflect on the game?

GenG GodDead: “I think we just got out aimed, like they just shot better than us. I don’t really think it was about the strategy or anything. They just shot better than we did”

Q. Ever since losing to DRX, we haven’t seen consistency from DRX. What exactly is going wrong with GenG during these games?

GenG GodDead: “I think we just need to find a way to find our confidence. To build our confidence up again because if you are confident your shot will follow. Because there are few players on our team that are struggling with confidence, including myself.”

Q. Irrespective of your team’s result, your performance is still on par with every other flex player in Pacific. What do you think about your own performance in the league?

GenG GodDead: “Thank you for your kind words. But I don’t think I have played a single game this season which I was at my best. So In order to find my top form I still need a lot of work and it will be what I would work on if we make it to the playoffs”

Q. What would the team address before playing ZETA Division in the next game?

GenG GodDead: “Like I said before, I don’t think we will go into the ZETA match in terms of like a whole lot of strategic adjustments or changes in terms of teamplay. I think the only thing we need to find for the ZETA match will be our confidence”

Q. Any specific player in ZETA you are looking out for?

GenG GodDead: “I would say LAZ because LAZ was struggling a little bit at the beginning of the season but recently his aim, his individual performance has been on point. Also, I heard that he has been IGL’ing as well. I thought it was sugarZ3ro IGL’ing but I heard it’s LAZ as well but I am not 100% sure. But LAZ is the player to lookout for”

Q. You were referred to as the spear for GenG for TS. Does that add pressure on you to perform?

GenG GodDead: “I don’t think there’s any pressure. I am happy to hear he said that”

Q. You joined the team after they were playing for a while. How was it coming into the team, and how’d you say TS is as a leader?

GenG GodDead: “There were difficulties in adjusting when I came in but there were also parts that were easy because like the hard part was I took a break from competition so there was things I had to learn and when I joined the team we only had a month before the season started so there wasn’t a lot of time. But I played with three of the existing members before on OnSlayers and made things easier in terms of my adjustment to the team.

Regarding TS, he is a player that I don’t want to meet on the opposing team. I don’t know how the IGLs or the team captains of the other teams interact with their teammates and I don’t know the inner workings of the other teams but I think of all the other players I have met TS is the very best”

Q. Any team you want to face again and beat in the playoffs?

GenG GodDead: “I would say Global Esports because I am friends with some of their players. But also more importantly in a match against them I feel we lost without being able to do anything. So if I face them again I definitely want to try things and make a lot of attempts in the game”

Q. Any team you want to face internationally?

GenG GodDead: “I haven’t really thought about it but I would say Fnatic because they have the best teamwork in all of Valorant right now, and I would like to experience what it is like”

GenG lost to ZETA in the final game of the season. But they managed to qualify for the playoffs with the 5-0 start. They will rematch against T1 at the VCT Pacific playoffs. The Playoffs for VCT Pacific kickoff next week, with the opening game starting May 19th. Follow VCT Pacific's Twitter for all the updates regarding VCT Pacific.
