In a surprising off-season move, Gen.G, a prominent Korean esports organization and VCT Pacific partner, has decided to part ways with most of its eight-member professional VALORANT roster. This unexpected announcement, made on September 8, 2023, has left the esports community in a state of disbelief.

A Promising 2023 VALORANT Roster

Gen.G's VALORANT roster for the VCT 2023 season showcased immense promise, featuring talented athletes like Yeom "eKo" Wang-ryong, Kim "GodDead" Sung-sin, Lee "k1Ng" Seung-won, Yu "TS" Tae-seok, Kim "Secret" Ha-jin, and Ko "Sylvan" Young-sub.

Contracts Expired: The Roster Exodus

According to the official announcement, the contracts of all these roster members have expired, leading to their release from the organization. The only exception is Kim "Meteor" Tae-O, who remains on the team. Gen.G's plans for the future in VALORANT esports remain uncertain.

Gen.G Pays Tribute to Its Departing Roster

Before the official announcement, Gen.G expressed its appreciation for the departing roster members, offering an emotional tribute. The organization acknowledged the team's resilience in the face of adversity, emphasizing that despite unmet expectations, Gen.G's legacy will endure.

Speculation suggests that Gen.G is likely gearing up to rebuild its roster around Kim "Meteor" Tae-O for the upcoming VCT 2024 season.

Highs and Lows of the 2023 Season

Gen.G began the 2023 season on a high note, triumphing over formidable opponents such as Team Secret, Rex Regum Qeon, T1, and DetonatioN FocusMe in the first four weeks of the VCT Pacific league. However, their impressive win streak was abruptly halted, leading to a disheartening five-game losing streak starting from Week Five.

Despite this setback, Gen.G's strong performance in the opening weeks secured them a spot in the league playoffs. Unfortunately, they exited the playoffs after suffering two defeats at the hands of T1.

VCT Pacific LCQ and a Disappointing Conclusion

In a bid to salvage their season, Gen.G participated in the VCT Pacific LCQ. Despite a valiant effort, they ultimately succumbed to Team Secret in the lower final series. Concluding the VCT 2023 season on a disappointing note.

The Off-Season: A Time for Reflection and Change

As the VCT off-season unfolds, it provides organizations like Gen.G with a valuable opportunity to reevaluate their strategies and implement necessary changes. Gen.G, along with other esports organizations, is expected to make the most of this period of introspection and adjustment.
