Five Reasons Spirit Breaker Is The Strongest Roaming Support

Five Reasons Spirit Breaker Is The Strongest Roaming Support

Dota 2 patch 7.41 and 7.41a have done a lot to shake up the meta. Old favorites have fallen off, while new heroes have come into the spotlight. It's a whole new world and everyone is doing their best to figure it out the fastest.

One hero that has quickly...charged... to the top, is Spirit Breaker. He has received several ability reworks with the result being one of the best roaming supports in the game.

Five Reasons you should pick Spirit Breaker in Dota 2 patch 7.41a

He's a hard guy to bring down

One of the standouts for Spirit Breaker is that he is among the most durable supports in the game. A lot of positions four's tend to be more on the squishy side. Such as Hoodwink, Dark Willow, and Lion. Not so with Barathrum.

Spirit Breaker starts with four armor and a solid health pool. He also has 3.3 strength gain, which is nothing to scoff at. Stats aren't the only thing working for the hero. Bulldoze gives him 70% status resistence, while Planar Pocket provides him with 40% extra magic resistence. He even has a (often not needed) talent for more armor.

Spirit Breaker has great Aghanim upgrades

In the past, Barathrum has often had a good Scepter upgrade and a bad Shard. Or vice-versa. But 7.41 fixed that by giving the hero two highly useful upgrades.

Aghanim's Shard gives him Planar Pocket. The 40% magic resistence is bonkers by itself, but the fact that you can use it to save one of your cores and deflect spells is a massive defensive boon. It can take a bit of coordination in pubs, but you can simply use it like a Lotus Orb.

His new Scepter is even better. Bashing one hero sends it flying further and can lead to it bashing another enemy. His Nether Strike bash is even further amplified.

Thanks to his new Aghanim's Scepter upgrade, positioning against Spirit Breaker is harder than ever, making him an amazing pick in pub games.

Spirit Breaker has a flexible item build

We touched on how good his Aghanim upgrades are, but you can make a reasonable item build without it. Spirit Breaker benefits from multiple item paths, none of which are bad.

You can opt for Kaya and either Sange for more durability, or Yasha for maximum damage and mobility. Shadow Blade gives you faster, invisible charges, great for starting fights or pushing out lanes. Either Phase or Boorts of Bearing are valid options.

In Short, you can't really go wrong with how you build Spirit Breaker. And this versatility means he can counter a huge range of opponents based on how he builds himself.

Spirit Breaker doesn't care about magic immunity

Most supports tends to have diminishing impact the longer the game drags on. This is due to enemy cores buying magic immunity and therefore negating their disables for a short time.

Spirit Breaker doesn't care about that bullshit. Greater Bash pierces debuff immunity and all his spells rely on it to deal damage. This gives the hero 3(!) abilities to handle BKB.

Of course, it's important to note that enemies will buy significantly more Linken's Spheres in games with Spirit Breaker, which can be annoying to play againsst. Yet despite that, Barathrum remains one of the best supports to have late-game.

Spirit Breaker applies tremendous pressure to enemies

We covered a lot of relatively complex aspects of Spirit Breaker. His durability, open item build, strengths against debuff immunity. The hero has a lot of facets going for him. Well.... not old facets, I mean he is multi-faceted bu not in a facet way in Dota 2. It makes sense if you think about it a lot.

However, when it comes to actually playing Spirit Breaker, the hero is simplicity itself. You select an enemy, press Q, and hope he dies. It's one of the simplest heroes to pick up and play.

Sure there is thinking involved in who to charge and when, but overall the hero's gameplay is among the easiest for cores. He is also incredibly potent at it and can charge people all over the map from level one.

Spirit Breaker is the best support to pick up in Dota 2 right now. He has simple but highly effective gameplay, while providing players with tons of versatility in how they build him. You really can't go wrong with Barathrum right now.
