Dota Valkyries: Treasure of the Deep Tournament to start next week
The Dota Valkyries is an organization dedicated to helping women and non-binary folks play in a professional Dota environment. For aspiring pros, it seems like the perfect place to scout out the next big talent in Dota. This isn’t their first tournament but don’t let the lower prize pool and 5,000 MMR cap fool you, it seems like a great opportunity to get involved. It’s also so rare to see female players involved in Dota tournaments that this is going to be a real treat!
The first co-ed tournament
Despite being a largely women focused organization, Dota Valkyries are branching out into co-ed a tournament for the very first time, as confirmed on their Twitter page. That means that mixed teams can enter, but all teams must have an absolutely minimum of 2 female (including transgender) or non binary players involved. This includes any subs that may need to play too.
This is a pretty small tournament and is only open to the NA/SA regions. However, if it’s a success, there’s nothing stopping more regional or even international tournaments taking place. With only 12 teams taking place and a comparatively low MMR cap, it’s a good opportunity for those guilds to get in some proper tournament practice.
Formatting
Unlike many other Dota tournaments, Treasure of the Deep will mostly be a best of 1 round robin format, with each team playing each other at least once. This will be followed by a usual elimination bracket going into the finals. The grand finals, due to take place on November 20th, will be a best of 3.
Prize Pool
It’s not often tournaments at this level have a monetary prize pool but this one does! It certainly serves to sweeten the deal a little, but that’s not really the focus of this tournament! The top 3 places will receive a share of $500 divided as:
- 1st place: 250 USD
- 2nd place: 150 USD
- 3rd place: 100 USD.
Talent - time to get involved
While the official casters have yet to be announced, day 1 of the tournament is specially reserved for new up and coming talent. Again, the Valkyries confirmed on their Twitter account that casters from across the Dota 2 Twitch community will have a chance to cast. This is alongside a Spanish stream that’ll take place on Facebook to make the tournament as inclusive as possible for South American fans.
While it hasn’t been confirmed that any more famous Dota talent faces will be attending, it’s certainly well known that Dota Valkyries are endorsed by Moxxi, Sheepsticked and more.
