Dipping Below the Average: BLAST Slam III Dota 2 Meta Recap
BLAST Slam III is over, and we're back with our traditional dota 2 meta recap. In this edition, we'll look at the most popular heroes, the best-performing picks, and the fabled shadow meta. While other tournaments have showcased heroes with better results, BLAST Slam III brought a big surprise.
All of the most popular heroes ended up with win rates below 50% in the matches they appeared in. Despite this seemingly poor showing, keep in mind that a smaller sample size also means underperforming teams have a disproportionate impact on these final statistics.
BLAST Slam III Dota 2 Meta Recap: Strange Results
Tiny: The “Least Bad” Option

First up, let's talk about the performance of the Top 5 most popular heroes. Among them, Tiny came out on top with 7 wins, 9 losses, and a win rate of 43.75% — still underwhelming, but better than the rest. At the bottom of the list, Jakiro struggled with a 31.58% win rate, managing just 6 wins against 13 losses.
The title of "most picked hero" goes to Ringmaster, appearing in 19 out of the tournament's 43 matches. Rounding out the Top 5 are Dark Seer and Nature's Prophet, both with a 42.86% win rate, which looks decent compared to the rest of the leaderboard.
Shadow Shaman Shines in the Shadow Meta

In a stunning performance, Shadow Shaman played 9 matches, won 8, and lost only once, resulting in an impressive 88.89% win rate. While this sample size isn't large enough to call him "broken," it's clear he's a hero to watch closely in upcoming tournaments.
Similarly, Monkey King surprises again with an 80% win rate across 10 matches. Another outlier was Pangolier, who secured 7 victories in 11 matches (63.64% win rate). Pango had been struggling in recent tournaments but seems to perform well when the stakes are high.
"Close to the Top" Is the Ideal Place

Lastly, we have a few notable heroes who didn't make the Top 5 in popularity but still performed well. Three heroes stand out:
- Ancient Apparition kept his reputation intact as one of the best-performing support, with a 53.85% win rate.
- Beastmaster matched that result, proving his versatility in multiple roles and across multiple rosters, specially Team Falcons and Tundra Esports.
- Morphling is slowly clawing his way back into the dota 2 meta, ending up with a perfectly balanced 50% win rate.
Looking Ahead: DreamLeague Season 26
Next up on the Dota 2 pro circuit is the DreamLeague Season 26, the final ESL Pro Tour event before the Esports World Cup. The tournament kicks off on May 19th, though there's already drama brewing as Team Spirit and Tundra Esports have withdrawn before it even starts.
