Last year, IEM Rio Major was one of the most successful CS:GO events of the season. And part of the reason was the participation of the local fans’ favorite, FURIA Esports.

This organization has worked really hard to bring its CS:GO team to the current level of skill and almost the entire roster has been here from the first few years of the project. This is what gives FURIA both strength and a loyal fan base. The players have been competing together for many years.

IEM Rio 2023

IEM Rio 2023 is scheduled to take place in April, in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil proved to be a great place to hold a CS:GO tournament and ESL want to repeat the experience from 2022. No doubt, it’s always a good feeling for an event organizer to know in advance that all the tickets will be sold.

The tournament will bring together 16 of the world’s top teams and will offer them $250.000 in prize money. That’s not that much relative to today’s standards, but it’s still a decent amount and the show itself will make the adventure worthwhile for everyone.

Most of the participants have already been announced. Many of them are ESL partner teams:

  • FaZe Clan
  • Fnatic
  • MOUZ
  • Natus Vincere
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Team Vitality

Then we have four teams from the ESL World Ranking table:

  • Heroic
  • Outsiders
  • Cloud9
  • OG

FURIA Esports were invited separately, simply because they would greatly increase the motivation of the local fans to come and see the tournament live. But there’s more to ESL’s decision. FURIA finished 3rd – 4th at IEM Rio Major and are currently ranked 6th globally.

With these kinds of performances, they’re not exactly an outsider club that was given the opportunity to make a name for itself. The invitation was fully deserved. Those who want to see Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato in action again can follow the tournament between April 17-23 or even travel to Rio de Janeiro.

The last five participants will be decided in the coming months. All of them will need to go through qualifiers, which will be held in four regions: Europe, North America, South America, and Asia.
