It’s almost time for the Dota 2 Division 2 DPC tournaments to kick off. While some fans may be completely preoccupied with those who will be playing at the upcoming Lima Major, there’s still plenty of talent both new and old heading to Div 2.

Division 2 is made up of new teams that have qualified to play in the DPC leagues through both open and closed qualifiers. Fans may all see some familiar faces as 2 teams in each region are playing in Div 2 after being relegated from Div 1 in the last season.

Familiar Faces in the Dota 2 Division 2

With all eyes currently on the WEU Div 1 tiebreakers heading into the Lima Major, it can be easy to let some spicy Dota action slip through the cracks. However, those fans will miss out on witnessing the desperate fight back to Div 1 so that these teams can also play for a place at the Major. Here are the teams that were relegated in the last season:

  • Western EU: Alliance and Ancient Tribe
  • Eastern EU: YNT and HF
  • China: Vici Gaming and Poke Gaming
  • Southeast Asia: Polaris Esports and UD Vessuwan
  • North America: The Cut and Felt
  • South America: No Runes and Ukamari

Of course, fans who weren’t paying too much attention will be surprised to see Alliance in this list. However, they really struggled last year and were repeatedly stomped off the face of the map in Div 1. Now, with a brand new roster including EG, OG and Team Secret alum s4, the Dota 2 Division 2 tournament may be a little kinder to Alliance.

Brand new talent in Dota

2022 was something of a mass exodus from the pro Dota scene. Multiple long term and beloved players including Matumbaman and Ame retired. Their absence has left some gaping holes in the talent pools but perhaps the Dota 2 Division 2 rosters can deliver. There will be a long road ahead for these teams. Who knows, they could work their way all the way up to The International by the end of the year. It'll be interesting to see if the DPC meta is the same between divisions.

Here are the teams that have come up through closed qualifiers:

  • Western EU:  Monaspa and Ooredoo Thunders
  • Eastern EU: Hydra and Sigma YNT
  • China: YBB Gaming and Outsiders From CN
  • Southeast Asia: Execration and Geek Slate
  • North America: CDUB Esports and Fart Studios
  • South America: Balrogs and Lava Esports.

Depending on the region, the Dota 2 Division 2 tournaments will be beginning from February 1st. With productions from most of the same companies that have been running div 1 (including PGL in 2 regions), fans will be in store for some amazing Dota. Perhaps they’ll even get to see the new Matumbaman in action!
