Is Stake.us available in New Jersey?

I’ll be quick here and confirm that the current answer is no. Unfortunately, you can’t play at Stake.us if you live anywhere in this US state. New Jersey is a little unusual in this respect though, so let’s find out why that is.

Social and sweepstakes casinos are a legitimate model offered by multiple online websites. Rather than accepting deposits and withdrawals as regular real money casinos do, you can play at sites like Stake.us for free. Given that it works by using a sweepstakes format, there is no requirement to purchase anything to be in with a chance of getting a real prize.

The idea is that you collect Sweeps Coins, although they’re called Stake Cash at Stake.us, in keeping with the name. Once you’ve got some Stake Cash to play with, you can play in Sweeps Mode to see if you can win some more. Your Stake Cash winnings are then redeemable for a real prize, according to their rules and regulations. This can be done in multiple US states - Stake.us is legal in South Carolina, for example. However, if you’re wondering if Stake.us is legal in PA, the answer is no. And the same is true in New Jersey.

What does the law say about sites like Stake.us in NJ?

Having done some research, I can confirm that regular online casino gambling is legal in this state. Oftentimes, I find that social and sweepstakes casinos are available in states where real money gambling online is not - so things work the other way around in NJ. This might seem a little odd, but I looked at recent updates in this area to clarify things a bit.

It seems that lawmakers in New Jersey want to outlaw social and sweepstakes casinos, seemingly because they cannot tax them as they can regular online casinos. Technically, therefore, Stake.us is legal in NJ at the moment, but may not remain so for long. Hence why Sweepsteaks Limited, the company behind Stake.us, has opted to exit New Jersey at the present time. I’ve noticed this is true of a few other similar online websites, so it’s something to keep an eye on.

It’s a fair question - after all, Stake.us could operate in the Garden State at present, so why would it decide not to do so? We can only speculate on that point, but I think it’s because it looks likely that things will change there. If the lawmakers decide to lump social and sweepstakes casinos into the same bracket as regular online casinos in terms of taxation, they would certainly exit the market then. It seems they’ve decided it is safer to do so early, to get ahead of any changes that might occur. I’ll keep an eye on any changes or legislative updates that may happen, and let you know about them here.

How does Stake.us work?

We know that Stake.us isn’t available in NJ, although many other states are fine - Stake.us is legal in Virginia, for instance. With changing laws and legislation in mind, it’s worth knowing how Stake.us works in case things change in future. It all comes down to two types of virtual currencies, which I’ll describe for you here.

Gold Coins (GC)Stake Cash (SC)
Available for social gameplayAvailable for sweepstakes play
You can’t redeem Gold Coins for anything elseStake Cash winnings are redeemable for a real prize
You have the option to purchase more Gold Coins, but you don’t need to - it’s not a requirement of using the siteYou cannot purchase Stake Cash, but there are many ways to collect free SC along the way

Don’t forget that if you’re reading this out of curiosity and you live in a US state that Stake.us does operate in (Stake.us is legal in Indiana, for example), you can sign up there using the exclusive code, STFSOCIAL, when you join. This will provide you with 55 in Stake Cash, 260,000 Gold Coins, and 5% rakeback as a new player. Make sure you’re fully aware of the differences between those two virtual currencies before you get underway, as it’ll help you settle in more easily.

What makes Stake.us a leading social and sweepstakes casino?

Stake.us offers players in 37 US states the chance to explore their site, providing hundreds of social games to play with Gold Coins or in sweepstakes mode using Stake Cash instead. Here are some of the features that make Stake.us a leader in this market. Understanding these will help you find suitable Stake.us alternatives that do operate in New Jersey.

🎮 Stake Originals and Exclusives

This covers two sections of their menu. Stake Originals are social titles you’ll only find there, including Plinko and Crash. Stake Exclusives are from other developers, but they’re reserved for Stake.us members only. License to Squirrel is one of my favorites from Massive Studios. These two groups of titles give players a unique feel to appreciate at the site, as those titles aren’t available anywhere else.

🗺️ Availability in Multiple US States

Now obviously, you know the slightly convoluted answer to the question of whether Stake.us is legal in NJ just now. However, Stake.us is still widely available across plenty of US states - far more so than standard online casinos. Those aren’t available in many states at all, so Stake.us is still an accessible site for plenty of people to check out. Social and sweepstakes casinos like this provide a practical and legal alternative for lots of people across the country who want to enjoy casino-style games.

🎫 They’ve Got Some Scratch Cards Too

I don’t often see these at social and sweepstakes casinos, but there are a handful to explore at Stake.us. Even though Stake.us isn’t available in NJ, players in 37 other states can try to Shave the Beard or Scratch a Million among other titles.

🏆 Stake.us Offers Some Challenges Too

The Challenges area of the site is worth exploring for those who can play there. There are various prizes in Gold Coins and Stake Cash, so you can see what you make of each challenge and the social game involved for each one. There are minimum requirements to participate, and minimum multipliers to hit in many cases, so read the rules carefully if you are thinking of taking part (assuming you’re in a legal state, of course).

Two sites to consider as alternatives to Stake.us in NJ

Even though you can’t currently play at Stake.us if you’re in the Garden State, there are a couple of alternatives you can check out. I’ve provided mini reviews of those below.

Jackpota is simple to sign up for and welcomes players from NJ.

Stake.us isn’t available in New Jersey, but other sites are

It’s disappointing to find that Stake.us isn’t available there just now, but as I’ve found in the past, things can change in the world of social and sweepstakes gaming. The situation surrounding a potential change in the law for sweepstakes websites is current, so I will update you here should any proposals go through - or indeed be vetoed. For the moment, the reality is that players from New Jersey can not join Stake.us.

Don’t forget that if you’re in one of the 37 states where the site is available, you can use the code STFSOCIAL to get 55 Stake Cash, 260,000 Gold Coins, and 5% rakeback upon signup. If you’re in NJ, you can explore the alternatives I've recommended here instead.
