I’m pretty well versed in the mystery box scene now, but OpenThatPack has shaken things up by offering something completely new - digital openings of actual TCG (Trading Card Game) card packs, instead of randomized pre-made packs.

I'll explain more in the below OpenThatPack review, but simply put, OpenThatPack allows you to buy a Pokemon Ascended Heroes pack for a set price, open it digitally using a randomizer and the actual pack rates from the manufacturer, and then get any cards you wanted to keep delivered. It's not limited to Ascended Heroes, other expansions are available too!

My first impressions of OpenThatPack - is it legit?

Before I get into the actual packs and how the site works, I wanted to make sure everything checked out with OpenThatPack ratings, and that it's the real deal. So I looked at features like its transparency, support, and banking setup.

Company info and transparency

I did notice that there isn’t any company information which is a small improvement they can make - most other sites I’ve tested recently at least give their name and head office location. Still, I read through the terms, how the whole process works, and their other documentation and nothing I saw led me to believe this is a scam - I’m happy that OpenThatPack is legit.

Website security

Whenever I was using the OpenThatPack site I felt secure. To start, it’s got SSL encryption, and when I wrote this OpenThatPack review, there was an active SSL certificate provided by Let’s Encrypt. Not only that, but the payments are secure, and they have documentation for their pack randomizer, fairness information, terms and conditions, privacy policy, and shipping information.

Customer support

I was having issues creating my account so I reached out to the support team - there’s a live chat and I was put through to someone named Mike within a few seconds. He was a little abrupt, BUT he ultimately helped me solve my problem and was really helpful, so I can’t complain. On top of that, there’s email support, and they have a heap of FAQs explaining how the site and pack rates work.

Payment methods

To credit my account, I was able to choose between crypto or credit/debit card and I found both options pretty easy to use. I stuck with a debit card as this is what I’m used to paying with online, and I was able to quickly link my Visa card and do the authentication.

However, I also checked out the crypto payment system, and they support Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin, plus multiple USDT and USDC networks. Crypto payments are done via a QR code where you can then make a direct transfer to their stated address.

What packs can you buy at OpenThatPack?

The first thing that I noticed about OpenThatPack is that you are NOT buying their randomized packs. Instead, you are buying digital versions of ACTUAL booster packs from well-known TCG genres. In the below table, I’ve outlined the full current list of available packs:

GenreMinimum PriceCurrent Booster Packs
Pokemon$5.00Pitch Black, Chaos Rising, Perfect Order, Ascended Heroes, Phantasmal Flames, Mega Evolution, Black Bolt, White Flare, Destined Rivals, Prismatic Evolutions, Surging Sparks, Temporal Forces, Paldean Fates, Paradox Rift, S&V 151, Obsidian Flames, Paldea Evolved, Crown Zenith, Lost Origin, Fusion Strike, Evolving Skies, Chilling Reign.
MTG$26.00Aetherdrift, Duskman HoH, Innistrad Remastered, Assassins Creed, March of the Machine.
One Piece$7.00The Time of Battle, Adventure on Kamis Island, The Azure Seas Seven, Legacy of the Master, Royal Blood, Two Legends.
Riftbound$6.00Unleashed, Spiritforged, Origins

Please note that this list is current at the time I wrote this OpenThatPack review - if they do not have a card from a pack in stock, they will remove the pack from the marketplace and you will NOT be able to buy it.

As you can see, Pokemon is by far the most popular category and they have all of the popular modern packs like Ascended Heroes and Destined Rivals. After that, they’ve got a decent set of MTG and One Piece packs, but only a handful of Riftbound options.

How OpenThatPack works

As I’ve mentioned, with OpenThatPack, you are buying digital versions of actual TCG booster packs. They have the exact same card pull rates as the physical versions, and OTP uses a fully visible hash algorithm to randomize the pulls and to simulate an actual physical booster pack opening. With each pack that you buy, you do the following:

That’s it! A cool animation then plays which shows the pack being ripped, and you can reveal your cards one by one.

What can you do with your cards?

With the cards you get, you’ve got three options:

  • Sell the cards back to OpenThatPack at FMV.
  • Keep the cards in your collection.
  • Have the physical cards shipped to your address.

If you don’t want the cards, you can simply sell them back to OTP at FMV - I’ve looked at the values and they are pretty much on the mark. Alternatively, you can simply lock and keep the cards in your digital inventory until you decide what to do with them. Finally, if there are any cards you like, you can have them shipped to your address.

OpenThatPack offers free shipping for orders over $100, and they facilitate both US and international deliveries.

Using the OpenThatPack site

I wanted to devote a little time to the site itself and its usability, and overall, I had a positive experience here. They’ve gone with an incredibly simple and user-friendly design that I think anyone can get to grips with, and I like that they’ve used the actual official artwork for the different packs that you can buy.

On top of that, you can see the entire card lists for the different sets, and there’s links to the manufacturers odds for pulling different cards so you can see your chances. I wasn’t able to see a mobile app for OpenThatPack, but I was impressed with the mobile browser version of the site anyway and if anything, I think it works and looks slightly better than the desktop website and I preferred using it.

Are there any OpenThatPack promotions?

I’ve made an alternative OpenThatPack bonus review where I look in more detail at the promotions, but I’ll give you a quick rundown here. Let’s start off with the bad - there isn’t a welcome bonus. Although, because of how this site works, and how it’s different to other mystery box sites, I didn’t really expect one.

It’s a pretty unique concept and I’m not sure how they would implement a signup offer. After that, there are the following promotional features:

  • Referral program.
  • Rewards scheme.

The referral program works on a commission basis, where you get a 5% bonus on every deposit they make. I really like how this scheme has been created, as you don’t see many referral programs that use deposits as a metric. It’s also worth noting that there is no limit on how many people you can refer, and you can get that 5% bonus for their lifetime of deposits.

The rewards scheme uses a simple XP system, where you get XP for buying and opening packs. There are then two potential bonuses you can unlock depending on your reward level:

  • Cashback bonus of up to 8%.
  • Sellback bonus of up to 10%.

Simply put, the higher your rewards level, the more cashback and sellback bonuses you will get on every purchase/sellback transaction you make. The only downside is that you have to manually claim your cashback by accessing the rewards page when using your OpenThatPack login.

Conclusion - OpenThatPack is a revolutionary concept

I’m not going to lie, I spent A LOT of money buying packs while creating this OpenThatPack review and I think the concept is fantastic - you’re essentially taking away the hassle and extra work buying physical TCG packs, and making the process that much easier. There’s no waste, and you only keep the cards you want - it’s that simple.

Sure, a welcome bonus would be nice, and perhaps they could make the pack opening look a little cooler, but these are MINOR cons at best and certainly not enough to make me NOT recommend it to you. If you like what you see, and you want to give it a try for yourself, feel free to use any of the OpenThatPack links I’ve put on this page.

OpenThatPack FAQs

šŸ’€ Is OpenThatPack legit?

Yes. They publish the odds of each booster pack which are taken from the actual manufacturers rates themselves, and they use a randomizer to make sure that your card openings have the same chance as opening actual physical packs.

āš™ļø How does OpenThatPack work?

This mystery box site allows you to buy and open actual TCG booster packs including Pokemon, MTG, One Piece, and Riftbound. You open the packs digitally, and you can then have the cards shipped to your address if you wish.

šŸƒ Are you opening actual packs at OpenThatPack?

As far as I can see, yes. While I don’t think that there is someone at the other end of the website ripping physical packs, I do believe that they use a randomizer that simulates the odds of getting the different cards in a TCG set when you buy and digitally open a pack. They then simply have the relevant card in stock to ship to you if you want to keep it.

šŸŒŽ Does OpenThatPack ship worldwide?

Yes. They offer free shipping for orders over $100, and you can get your cards delivered both to US and international addresses. Shipping times will vary depending on your location, how many cards you want, and other factors.
