▶️ All news for the Warzone Season 2 2025
Activision, the Microsoft-owned developer behind the Call of Duty game series, hasn’t yet released any concrete details about the forthcoming update. However, based on rumours, and a bit of our own inside intel here at Strafe, there are a few things that we can realistically expect.
Besides the usual elements that we see each season, including new weapons, operators, and game modes, a big focus will be on tackling cheating. With that in mind, here’s a quick breakdown of what you can expect to see when Back-Ops and Warzone Season 2 come your way at the end of this month:
Across Seasons 2 and 3, major updates are expected to the RICOCHET anti-cheat system. As well as identifying and removing cheaters from the game, Team RICOCHET has also promised to explore ways to prevent cheating in the first place. In a blog post in December, Activision admitted that Team RICOCHET did not hit its anti-cheat targets for Season 1. We can therefore expect (and indeed hope for) some MASSIVE improvements in this regard.
At least two maps will see significant updates, with Area 99 and Urzikstan tipped to undergo some big changes. Additionally, we could see the highly-anticipated return of the Verdansk map. There have been long-running rumours of these fan-favourite maps returning. There appears to be some truth in this, but we will more than likely have to wait until the mid-season update, or perhaps until Season 3 even.
Of course, the biggest and best thing about the new season and the midpoint update will be the new Battle Pass. This will bring new rewards, including skins, calling cards and other cosmetics. Like previous Battle Passes, you will need to work your way through the rankings to unlock these rewards. The new Battle Pass will also give you new weapons and Limited-Time Modes (LTMs). We also expect to see some new events, especially as the whole CoD franchise requires a bit of a shake-up. There may even be a flagship themed event, like the recent Call of Duty and Squid Game link-up.
Spend about two minutes on Reddit and you will find players highlighting endless issues with the gameplay in Warzone Season 1. Players have complained about everything from lighting issues, to map contracts, and character inabilities (the fact that you can’t close doors behind you when running being a major peeve for many players).Activision has promised that it is working on several gameplay improvements, with a focus on some key aspects that include map contracts, lighting and audio issues, plus UAV behaviour. We know for sure that these updates and improvements are coming, the question is will they be ready in time for Season 2, or will we have to wait until Season 3?

The recent Black Ops and Squid Game crossover event was a huge hit with players. It’s something that the CoD franchise needed amid a flurry of criticism, declining numbers, and player dissatisfaction.
Of course, Microsoft and Activision will have to focus on improving the main gameplay first, as it is their bread and butter. But more crossover events like the Squid Game and Black Ops would be a great way to get fans on board.
There don’t seem to be any crossover events touted for Season 2, but we have hope for Warzone Season 3. Here are some collabs that we would like to see in future Black Ops and Warzone seasons:
