Vitality and Cloud9 faced each other during the quarter-finals stage this Friday (04/08). Despite the good efforts from C9’s side, Vitality conquered a 2x0 series to secure their spot in the Semi-Finals. Let’s dive deeper into this match to see where things went wrong for sh1ro and his teammates.

The Game

This Bo3 was concluded in 2 maps, meaning that Vitality’s performance was flawless in the 2x0 series. Despite that, Cloud9 did have chances, and both maps could have ended differently.

Maps Picks

Here’s what went down during the map picks. First off, Cloud9 banned Nuke and Vitality Banned Ancient. Mirage was the first pick by C9, and Vitality opted for Inferno as their map of choice. After that, C9 removed Vertigo and Vitality removed Anubis, meaning that Overpass was left as the decider.

Mirage

Vitality controlled Mirage with ease, showing an overall performance better than what Cloud9 brought to the server. With an opening lead of 5x0 and the first half ending in a 10x5, Vitality just had to hold the line – which was exactly what they did. After 12 rounds in the second half, Vitality closed the map picked by Cloud9.

Inferno

With the setback of losing their map pick, Cloud9 had one chance to bring back the game to a winnable position. Despite all the efforts – especially from sh1ro – they were not able to close the map when they had the chance.

Unlike Mirage, Inferno was very close for both teams until the end. With the first half closing at 7x8 for C9 and the second at 8x7 for Vitality, the map had to be decided on overtime. With the overtime closing with a 4x2 (summing up to 19x17), Vitality closed their map pick and is now set to face Ence in the Semi-Finals of IEM Cologne 2023.

Player of the Match

This will be quite obvious for those of you who watched the series, but we have to mention it. Zyw0o was definitely the best player on the server today. Aside from all the impactful plays and clutches, a total of 56 kills (13 of those being first kills), and an average HLTV Rating of 1.46, made it so that Zyw0o was noted as a key piece of Vitality.
