The French esports organization, Vitality, put in a commanding display to win the BLAST Paris Major. 50,000 French fans were in attendance at the Accor Arena where the climax of the Champions Stage took place on Sunday night.
It was a remarkable performance from the only French team in the event, and they made light work of beating GamerLegion 2-0 in the final. Before this, Vitality had proved their dominance in the playoffs by beating both Apeks and Into The Breach 2-0.
Despite the huge amount of pressure from the home fans, Vitality picked up the CSGO trophy and gave Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ the title he’d been seeking for so long. It also put Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen up there as one of the all-time greats becoming the only CSGO gamer with five Major titles to his name.
GamerLegion will have been disappointed, but they can feel proud of their epic three-map victory over Heroic in the playoff stage. Prior to this, it was expected that Heroic would meet Vitality in the finals making it a repeat of April’s IEM Rio. But the 2023 BLAST Paris CSGO Major will be remembered for its shock results, with iconic teams like FURIA, G2 and NAVI all falling short early on.
The Paris Major also marked the last Major before the new Counter Strike game arrives on the Valve pro gaming circuit in 2023. Fans are eagerly waiting for the arrival of Counter Strike 2 this summer, and it will mark over ten years since the first CSGO kicked off in Jonkoping. As such, Vitality’s triumph on home turf couldn’t have been a better send-off for one of the games that kicked off the whole esports revolution.
