After a rocky year for esports events, we finally know the date and location for the biggest event in the esports calendar. The International has been cancelled, delayed, and more over the past couple of years. Now, that Valve has confirmed the date and location, here is what you need to know.

dota 2 the international

In-person event

The International 10 was originally planned for August 18th to 23rd, 2020 in the Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. However, the world was in the middle of a global pandemic, they then postponed the event until 2021. Earlier this year, they announced that the event would be held from August 5th to 15th. Obviously, that didn’t happen. They finally settled on a date and new location, October 7th to 17th in the Arena Națională in Bucharest, Romania. Less than a month away, Valve have finally confirmed that they will be allowing fans to attend the event, albeit not in the numbers that they have in the past.

Tickets

So, fans of DOTA 2 esports will be able to attend the event. If you manage to snag one of the very limited number of tickets, you can attend one of the three two-day events making up the main stages of The International. Here are the prices and events that you can gain access to:

  • Midweek 1: This runs from the 12th to the 13th. The price is 249 Lei. In Sterling that is £43.02 and dollars, $59.18.
  • Midweek 2: This runs from the 14th to the 15th. The price is 249 Lei. In Sterling that is £43.02 and dollars, $59.18.
  • The Finals Weekend: This runs from the 16th to the 17th. The price is 999 Lei. In Sterling that is £ 172.59 and dollars, $237.44.

As for the group stages that are being held before the main event of The International, Valve has made no mention of whether or not fans can attend. However, there are some very strict guidelines that attendees must follow if they want to attend.

Safety

All fans that want to attend the event must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask. They are currently accepting the following vaccines: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Sputnik, Sinopharm, and Sinovac. They will be following WHO and local guidance with regards to any other safety protocols that need to be put in place. This means that you will need to bring proof of vaccination to the event, if you are travelling from other countries to the event, the proof of vaccination must be in either English or Romanian.

Once you have received your ticket and presented your proof of vaccination, the event will proceed in a fairly normal manner. They have confirmed that there will not be any VIP programs running for the event. The number of fans in attendance means that you will have your choice of seats. They are not assigning seating but rather giving you a choice of seats in designated zones closer to the action but distanced enough for safety.
