The 2021 League of Legends World Championships are approaching rapidly. In just over a week, the event will kick off in Hall A at the Laugardalshöll indoor sporting arena in Reykjavik, Iceland. October 5th can’t come soon enough but there are still some things you should know before the event begins.
Riot Games have announced the full schedule for this year’s event. We know every match that will be played in the first three days of the event as well as the majority of the line ups for rest of the event besides those that will be determined during Worlds.
Here are the line ups for the play-ins taking place 5th, 6th, and 7th of October, keep in mind that the times may not be accurate for the actual event as some games may run longer or shorter:
Tuesday, October 5th
Wednesday, October 6th
Thursday, October 7th
After the play-ins are completed, we will move on to the main event. We also have confirmation of the first two teams taking part in the first match of the main event. DWG KIA and FunPlus Phoenix will face off against one another in a short best of one match.
What an absolute banger of a first match for the main event! In 2020, DWG KIA, when they were competing under the name DAMWON, were the first Korean team since 2017 to win the World Championships. They are the returning victors to this event, and they are eager to keep their crown.
FunPlus Phoenix on the other hand, swept G2 Esports in 2019 and became the second Chinese team in a row to win the League of Legends World Championships. They were also one of the first teams to win a World Championship on their first appearance.
These are two of the best teams playing League of Legends right now. FunPlus Phoenix have a lot more to prove. They have declined in prominence a lot more than DWG KIA have since their win at Worlds in 2019. DWG KIA won both the Spring and Summer spits in the Korean League of Legends series this year, while FunPlus Phoenix finished as runners up.
Both teams still managed to make it to the main stage of the World Championships, so we are eagerly awaiting this showdown.
