What are the Rocket League ranks?

Rocket League MMR ranks are stat and skills-based player ratings that are used to keep online games competitive. When you go to play a game online, you will be put in a team with players of a similar skill level.

On the other side, you will play against a team with a similar skill level to yourself. There are nine ranking tiers, seven of which have three levels, giving you 23 ranks in total. Within the middle seven ranks, you have four divisions.

Rocket League rank MMR and division - An example

In theory, this ranking and tier system can appear a bit confusing, but it’s easier when you see it in action. If your rank is Platinum I, Division IV, it means that you are in the fourth division of the Platinum I MMR rank.

All Rocket League ranks explained

In the table below, you can see how all ranks in Rocket League work:

How Rocket League rank distribution works

Naturally, some ranks are far better populated than others, which makes matchmaking easier. The lower tiers take up a very small percentage of the total Rocket League player percentage because new players either tend to drop out or level up pretty quickly.

At the other end, few players take the time and dedication required to reach the skill level needed for the truly elite tiers. As a result, the Rocket League rank distribution is far from even, with a huge density in the middle tiers (Gold I to Diamond I)

MMR ranking Rocket League stats

Rather than boring you with all of the stats and figures, here are some of the most notable facts regarding the Rocket League rank distribution:

  • Most populated rank - Platinum I: 783,152 players (17.63%)
  • Least populated rank(s) - Unranked and Bronze 1 (0%)
  • Number of Supersonic Legend players (highest) - 2,818 (0.063%)

How the ranks affect esports betting

Because of the MMR system, only players of the same ranks are matched against each other. Pretty much all players playing in elite competitions for cash prizes will be Supersonic Champions.

As a result, the ranking system has very little impact on the Rocket League odds and how they move.

All ranks in Rocket League - Conclusion

While the soccer-fantasy game mix is quite unique, the MMR ranking system in Rocket League will be familiar to most players. At the end of the day, you can improve your skill level, rank and division by playing games.

This is easy enough to do organically as you will only be matched with players at a similar level to yourself. For more info on the esports side of things, you can take a look at our Rocket League betting guide here at Strafe.
