Key Points
  • Overwatch 2 supports full crossplay across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.

  • A Battle.net account is required to link and play across platforms.

  • Competitive mode stays platform-specific, but casual modes are fully cross-platform.

Overwatch 2 crossplay lets us team up across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch without needing to switch sites. The game is free-to-play and supports full cross-platform play and progression using a single Battle.net account.

This guide covers how to set up Overwatch 2 crossplay, how to link console accounts, and what modes support mixed-platform squads. We’ll also explain which settings affect matchmaking, how aim assist changes in crossplay lobbies, and what to do if something isn’t working. Getting started takes minutes, and playing together lasts much longer. How to Enable Crossplay in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 crossplay basics

Crossplay just means you can play with friends on other platforms. In Overwatch 2, that includes players on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, all in the same match. As long as your accounts are linked through Battle.net, the game doesn’t care what system you’re using. You’ll see the same friends list, progress, and unlocks, no matter where you log in.

How to set it up

Once you’ve got your accounts ready, here’s how to fully enable crossplay and get grouped up across platforms.

1ïžâƒŁ Step - Create or log in to your Battle.net account

You can create an account through the Battle.net mobile app. The setup takes a few minutes, just your basic info, a secure password, and a region. We recommend turning on two-factor authentication while you’re in there. It helps protect your account, especially if you’re playing across multiple devices.

2ïžâƒŁ Step - Link your console to Battle.net

This part matters most for console players. Once you’re logged into Battle.net:

  1. Go to Account Settings → Connections.
  2. Choose the platform you want to link. Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, or Nintendo.
  3. Authorize the connection either on your console or browser.
  4. Launch Overwatch 2, and it’ll ask you to confirm the link and complete the merge.

You can only link one account per platform. If you play on two different Xbox profiles or PSN accounts, only one can be linked at a time.

3ïžâƒŁ Step - Add cross-platform friends in Overwatch 2

To play with someone on another system, you’ll need to be Battle.net friends. Here’s how:

  • Open Overwatch 2 and head to the Social tab.
  • Use Add a Friend and enter their BattleTag or the email tied to their account.
  • Once they accept, they’ll appear in your friends list, no matter what platform they’re on.

Console players will see both their platform friends list and their Battle.net friends within the same menu.

4ïžâƒŁ Step - Queue into a crossplay-friendly mode

Now you’re ready to play. Once your group includes players on different platforms, you’ll need to stick to modes that allow crossplay. These include Quick Play, Arcade, custom games, and seasonal or experimental modes like Stadium.

You’ll notice that competitive matchmaking on Overwatch betting sites is locked when you’re in a mixed-platform group. That’s intentional, as ranked mode keeps PC and console pools separate for balance reasons. As long as you’re in a supported mode, everyone in your party can match together, regardless of which system they’re on.

Crossplay troubleshooting

Things don’t always run perfectly the first time, especially when linking accounts or grouping across platforms. Below are some of the most common crossplay issues, and what to do when they come up.

▶ Can’t see your friend

Start by checking that both players are signed into the correct Battle.net accounts. You’ll also want to make sure that the console accounts are properly linked in the Battle.net Connections page. If even one account is unlinked or linked to the wrong profile, friends won’t show up in-game.

▶ Account merge prompt won’t go away

This usually means the merge wasn’t fully completed. Make sure you’ve accepted the in-game merge prompt and also confirmed the process through your Battle.net settings on the web. Until both are done, the system will keep flagging the account as incomplete.

▶ Competitive mode greyed out

If you’re grouped with players on different platforms, Overwatch 2 disables competitive matchmaking by default. To unlock ranked play again, you’ll need to switch to a single-platform party, either all console or all PC.

▶ Still not matching with other platforms?

Double-check that crossplay is enabled both in Overwatch’s in-game settings and your console’s network permissions. On Xbox, for example, system-level cross-network settings can override the game’s options. If crossplay is turned off in either spot, you won’t be placed in cross-platform lobbies.

Squad up and jump in

Once your Battle.net account is linked, Overwatch 2 makes it super easy to team up across platforms. You can queue into Quick Play, run Arcade games, or create custom lobbies with your friends, even if they’re on a different system entirely.

Link your accounts, check out our banners to find the best Overwatch betting sites, send a BattleTag request, and get your squad going. The platform doesn’t matter anymore.
