League of Legends is an epic game, with over 150 champions to choose from. Most League of Legends champions have wildly different characteristics that make them a perfect fit for different players. However, it seems that in the world of professional gaming, there are favorites that crop up again and again.
With the League of Legends Championships coming up in September, we went through the top characters of the 2024 season to see if we could see a pattern… After all, if they’re good enough for the pros, they’ll definitely be good enough for us!
LoL is one of the world’s biggest games and the last LoL player count showed that 140 million people play the game every month. And it’s no surprise that many of them follow the Championship games too. So let’s start by taking a look at the top five League of Legend champions favored by professional gamers during the 2024 season.
Champions | Attributes |
---|---|
Sejuani | Sejuani is one of the Iceborn, meaning she’s resistant to cold. This means she can wield True Ice, which never melts! She’s also incredibly talented when it comes to flail. She can take down a lot of large foes with this and wields one made of that True Ice. |
K’Sante | K’Sante’s two ntofos are so powerful they can create fractures in the ground and take opponents down with sheer blunt force. He’s also one of the top monster hunters in Nazumah, capable of finding the weaknesses of almost any beast. |
Xayah | As a Vastaya, her connection to the Spirit Realm increases her longevity and gives her powerful magic to draw on. Xayah is a Lothlan, which means she’s a birdlike Vastaya and this makes her much more agile than normal humans. |
Nautilus | Due to his strength, Nautilus’ basic attacks deal much more power than normal - this is an innate ability. His giant anchor is his greatest strength, dealing magic damage against opponents and dragging himself to the location if hitting terrain. |
Rakan | Like Xayah, Rakan is a Vastaya and has the magic to back it up. Again, as a Lothlan, Rakan is much more agile than regular humans, which can be put to good use in game. |
It’s all well and good knowing the names of the pros favorite champions, but how will they work out for you? Let’s take a look!
Sejuani is definitely not one for beginner players, however, she takes the top spot of this list with ease. Professional players love using Sejuani due to her tanky nature and her terrific ultimate, which can disrupt an entire opposing team. In the solo queue, Sejuani may not be an ideal choice, given her skills are best played out in the long run. So if you’re looking for a quick win, Sejuani is not the one for you.
K’Sante’s tankiness makes him a stable and reliable pick in the pro leagues, along with the increasing damage and scaling that happens when playing a game. In terms of most League of Legends champions, K’Sante is not for the faint of heart, he’s consistently nerfed and many champions will find him far too difficult to work with. However, for the pros, he’s a brilliant choice.
Xayah is next up on our list, taking bronze place in the ranks. A natural counter, Xayah holds the title as the most-picked ADC in the pro leagues. Her ability to use her ultimate to dodge makes her an excellent pick for all skill levels.
Everyone’s comfort support role, Nautilus is consistently picked in the pro leagues due to his excellent 2v2 skirmishing power and his engages. Although he only deals moderate damage, his hook proves invaluable.
It’s no surprise that fan favorite Rakan has made the list here, with his crowd control ability and fast mobility. However, for beginners, Rakan can be a bit of a struggle, he’s a high-skill champion that many find difficult to play at first.
There aren’t a lot of surprises here on the list of LoL champions, in fact, the same ones appear fairly regularly. Nonetheless, it will still be interesting to see who the pros pick in the September Championships.
If you’re looking for an insider view on which champions to pick for your own LoL games, then the pros' choices may not be the best examples, as most of them aren’t very beginner friendly. However, with a selection of 150 LoL champions out there, you’re sure to find one or two to suit your gaming style.
