The 3 best heroes to counter Sun in Mobile Legends

Key Points
  • X.Borg is the top counter to Sun, thanks to his Fire Missiles melting clones on cooldown and Firaga Armor giving him a free second life in lane.
  • Odette can wipe all three of Sun’s bodies at once with Swan Song, making her a nightmare in team fights if she positions correctly.
  • Paquito’s burst combo deletes Sun before the clones become a threat, and his mobility helps track the real one after swap-outs.

Best Heroes and Tips to Counter Sun in Mobile Legends

There’s nothing more annoying than watching Sun split-push down your side lane with two clones and zero fear. By the time you realise which one’s real, your tower’s gone and he’s lifestealing off the next wave like nothing happened.

Thankfully, there are a few heroes that counter Sun completely. After playing (and losing to) him enough times this patch, I’ve narrowed it down to three picks that hard-counter Sun without needing perfect aim or flashy micro. They each handle him differently. Some delete all his clones at once, others focus him down fast, but they all do the job.

Why Sun is so frustrating in ranked

Sun’s whole identity revolves around illusions. His Clone Techniques (Ultimate) summons one doppelganger that inherits 70%/85%/100% of his attributes depending on skill level. So when he dives you with his passive bonus attack speed, you’re getting melted.

What makes it worse is his Endless Variety lets him throw a staff and blink instantly to wherever it lands, meaning he can clone-swap, reposition, or chase without warning. In lower to mid-elo, that’s horrendous.

Right now, he’s sitting on a 51% win rate in ranked on Mobile Legends betting sites, but it feels way higher when your comp lacks AoE. You can’t just burst him down if you can’t tell who’s real, and most supports can’t keep up when he snowballs with sustain.

How to counter Sun

There are three ways to shut Sun down:

  • AoE or persistent damage to clear clones fast
  • High mobility or single-target burst to focus the real Sun
  • Defensive kits that outlast his damage windows

If a hero has at least two of these, they’re in a good spot. The ones below have all three, and they’re dominating right now in the current patch.

X.Borg

If Sun tries to run into X.Borg, he’s going to get roasted. Literally.
x borg

💡 Why X.Borg counters Sun 👍 Optimal build & tips
X.Borg’s Fire Missiles deal continuous AoE on a four-second cooldown and don’t cost mana. So even if Sun clones all-in at level 4, they all eat the flame trail. Meanwhile, Firaga Armor gives X.Borg a built-in second life. You’ll often bait Sun into overcommitting, survive the burst, then re-engage with your ult. Last Insanity, which explodes in an even bigger radius and erases everything around you.

He also scales off true damage if you overheat the flame gauge, so he melts tanks and clone swarms.

Start Bloodlust Axe for omni-lifesteal, then rush War Axe or Immortality for either brawling or safety. Your early game plan is simple. Zone him with Fire Missiles, pull waves early, and only dive when your armor is full. Always save Last Insanity for clone-heavy fights.

Odette

This one’s pure revenge fantasy. If Sun dares to dive your backline and you’re playing Odette, it’s over in one button.
Odette

💡 Why Odette counters Sun 👍 Build & tips
Odette’s Swan Song covers a wider radius than Sun’s clone leash, meaning all three bodies get caught when she ults. Unless he’s built hard CC (which he doesn’t), there’s no way to interrupt it. The damage is massive, and because Swan Song is a channel, you can Flicker mid-cast to reposition while still deleting the entire enemy team. You want Genius Wand early to cut through his passive tank stats, then go Glowing Wand to tag each clone and burn them all. Flicker is non-negotiable. It lets you survive dives and keep your ult on target. Odette doesn’t need to lane against Sun to counter him. Just wait for him to show up in team-fights and punish his overcommit.

Paquito

Sometimes, the best Sun counter is a brawler who ignores the clones and punches the real one into the dirt.
Paquito

💡 Why Paquito works

👍 Recommended build

Paquito’s whole kit is built around fast, targeted burst. A common full-stack burst is: Go Bloodlust Axe for early lifesteal, then Endless Battle to trigger burst procs. Finish with Blade of Despair to lock in kills. The trick is not getting baited by clones. You’ll need to stay mobile and watch the real Sun’s item build to know which one to chase.
▶️ 3-2-1-3-3 (Knockout Strike → Jab → Heavy Left Punch → double Knockout Strike)
Because Paquito’s dashes reset fast, you can stick to the real Sun even if he uses Instantaneous Move to swap bodies.

Honourable mentions

If those three are banned (or you just don’t main them), these are still decent counters:

  • Ruby — Tons of lifesteal and crowd-control to reset against Sun’s damage
  • Silvanna — Locks Sun in place with Imperial Justice, preventing clone reposition
  • Valir — Pushes the real Sun away from tower with Searing Torrent, which ruins early all-ins

They’re more niche, but still solid depending on comp.

Extra tips to counter Sun

Even without the perfect hero, there are ways to tilt the matchup in your favour:

💡 Tip 👍 Why it works
Buy Sea Halberd or Glowing Wand Cuts Sun’s clone heal and tags all bodies with damage-over-time
Use Vengeance or Aegis early Soaks the burst when all three bodies jump you pre-4
Ward side-lanes Sun lives in side brushes. Prevent flanks before they start
Double up Call your jungler before Sun hits level 4. He’s weakest when clones aren’t unlocked

Deleting clones deletes Sun

Sun is scary when left alone, there’s no denying that. But once you understand how to melt his clones (or just ignore them), he becomes way more manageable. X.Borg, Odette, and Paquito each give you a different way to win the matchup if you’re in lane, mid, or jungle.

Try them out in classic, get a feel for the timing, and start turning those monkey matchups into free wins.
