Once again, Worlds season has arrived. The biggest eSports tournament in League of Legends has arrived right here in the United States, with the tournament taking place across the biggest cities in the country. Everyone is excited for the upcoming tournament: but, what can players expect from this years Worlds?
19 teams have currrently qualified for this years Worlds, and will look to go to battle from October 15th all the way to November 14th. Hosted across major cities such as Los Angeles, Allen, Texas and Brooklyn, many players are saying this is the most exciting Worlds yet. This guide will cover all the dates and venues, what the format of this years tournament will be, and how exactly teams will advance.
As we covered above, the Worlds will be kicking off October 15th, with the initial playoffs between the teams kicking off the action. From there, it will progress to the Swiss eliminators, to the quarter finals, semi-finals, and eventually, the Finals of the Worlds taking place in Brooklyn. If you’re looking for an exact timelines and dates for when every stage takes place, check out our table below:
| Stage | Dates | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Play-In | Oct 15-18th | Los Angeles |
| Swiss | Oct 23-31st | Allen, Texas |
| Quarterfinals | Nov 3-6th | Allen, Texas |
| Semifinals | Nov 7-8th | Allen, Texas |
| Finals | Nov 14th | Brooklyn, New York |
The tournament progresses over the cours eof the month, with several breaks in between each stage so teams can rest, recover and restrategise. This is the common practice for the LoL Worlds, it will normally travel across several cities and several big arenas before the finals will take place in the biggest venue, which in this case is the Barclays Centre.

The 2026 LOL Worlds will take place in the U.S.

Now, the formatting of this years Worlds operate a little differently than they have in the past, and this is due to the number of teams that have qualified for this years tournaments. Since there are 19 teams this year, but only 16 teams will proceed to the Swiss stage.
Another interesting note about this years tournament is that the Fearless Draft Rule is in place. What this essentially means, is that in any best of 3 or best of 5 series, champions picked by a team in previous games of that same series cannot be picked again by that team. So once you use your main champion in one of the games, they are ineligible for the remainder of the series.
This years Play In Stage is scheduled to start on October 15th, and will finish up shortly thereafter on October 18th. It will be the grand opening of the Worlds tournament, so it will take place in the Riot Games Arena, in Los Angeles, one of the biggest eSports venues out there right now.
The four teams that are currently participating in the Play-Ins this year are Karmine Corp, Cloud9, MVK Esports and CBLOL (Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends) second seed, which is yet to be determined as of today.
The teams will compete under double elimination rules: what that means, is that a player has to lose twice before they are eliminated. So, the winners of the first two games will play each other, and the losers will too. The loser of the losing bracket game will be eliminated, and the winner of that game will then face the loser of the winner brackets game. And, so on, until three teams lose twice, and the final team advances to the Swiss Stage.
Currently, the teams that will face each other initially is decided by a random draw, that will take place on October 10th after the CBLOL Finals are finished.
This is the longest stage, and can be the most complicated stage for players to figure out, as it whittles down the playing field to only eight participants over the course of eight days. It takes place from October 23rd to October 31st, in Allen, Texas in the Credit Union of Texas Event Center.
The remaining sixteen teams will compete in a five round Swiss system. Now, you may ask: how exactly does a Swiss system work? It’s a little more complex than other tournament systems, but bear with us: we’ll break it down as simply as possible!
Essentially, the first eight teams that reach three consecutive wins advance. The remaining eight teams will then be eliminated by proxy, as any team that reaches three losses will be eliminated. It’s important to note that the elimination and advancement games take place under different conditions.
Standard games that are played just for points, are just one match, winner takes the point. For advancement or elimination games, however, the game take place under best of three rules: with the Fearless Draft rule in place we mentioned earlier.
The Draw mechanics for the Swiss round is also determined by what Tier you are in, based on your league. Tier 1 teams will play Tier 4 teams, while Tier 2 teams will play Tier 3 teams. Same region matches aren’t allowed in Round 1. From Round 2 onward teams are paired ahainst opponents with the same record, with repeat Swiss matchups prohibited. Here’s a breakdown of how the Tiers will generally look, based on the teams:
| Tier | Teams |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | GEN, AL, TLAW, G2 |
| Tier 2 | CBLOL winner, TSW, HLE, BLG |
| Tier 3 | LYON, MKOI, T1, TES |
| Tier 4 | CFO, IG, DK, Play-In Winner |

Once the top eight teams get three wins each, they will advance to the knockout stages. The rules become a lot simpler at these later stages. This is a single elimination round, with the quarterfinals taking place November 3rd to 6th, and the semifinals taking place November 7th to 8th, still taking place in Allen.
The matches here will be under a Best of 5 series rules, with the Fearless Draft rule still in place to prevent teams overusing their main champions. The final two teams standing will reach Brooklyn, and advance to the Grand Finals.
This is the big one. The final two teams will reach the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, on Saturday November 14th at 2pm EST/8pm CET, to play in a best of five series to determine who the LoL 2026 Worlds Champion is. All of the previous rules apply: best of five, Fearless Draft, and all five games happening back to back. The winner will be determined on this night, and lift the Worlds Trophy when it is all said and done.
