European teams are currently battling each other in search of a spot at IEM Sydney 2023, and we already have a few eliminations. Also, 9INE and Apeks will be playing the Upper Final today – which will start at 18:00 (GMT).

Here we’ll take a brief look at how this Closed Qualifier is going and what we can expect to see as a result. Sounds interesting? Keep reading for more!

Matchups

Opening Round

BetBoom Team During the Opening Round, we saw four matches. First off, Apeks versus knasigT, which ended in a 2x0 in favor of Apeks. As a result, Apeks moved on to the Upper Semi-Finals and knasigT moved to the Lower Bracket – this will be the case for all winners and losers for this Opening Round.Following the same outcomes as above, BetBoom beat OG in a 2x0, Ninjas in Pyjamas beat 1WIN in a 2x1, and 9INE beat Victory Zigzag with a clean 2x0.

Upper Semi-Finals

As you may have figured out, the winners from the Opening round played against each other here. The results were as follows:

Apeks 2 x 1 BetBoom
9INE 2 x 0 Ninjas in Pyjamas

Lower Round 1

This is where the losers from the Opening Round played against each other. OG was able to kick knasigT from the Qualifier with a clean 2x0 and Victory Zigzag beat 1WIN in a close 2x1.

Lower Semi-Finals

Losers from the Upper Semi-Finals will face the winners from the Lower Round 1 in search of a spot in the Lower Final. Ninjas in Pyjamas will face OG today at 13:30 (GMT) and BetBoom will face Victory Zigzag, simultaneously. These two series will decide who goes home and who moves on to the Lower Final.

Lower Final

FPS Gaming Stock Image The Lower Final will decide who faces the loser from the Upper Final game (Apeks x 9INE). On the other hand, the loser will be sent home. Do keep in mind that there is a Consolidation Final, which we’ll explain below.

Consolidation Final

This is where the losing teams from the Opening Round have the chance to get back on track. The loser from the Upper Final will drop directly to the Consolidation Final, where the best team from the Lower Bracket will face the second-best team from the Upper Final.

Eliminated Teams

So far only two teams have left the IEM Sydney 2023 Europe Close Qualifier. Since this is a double elimination bracket, and knowing that 1WIN and knasigT lost their first two matches, both are out of the qualifier.
