Apex Ranking - Everything you need to know

We’re now in Season 20 of Apex Legends, and the Apex Ranked mode has been given a bit of a shakeup. Some elements of this shakeup have confused players, with many left wondering how it’s possible to wind up with fewer Ranked Points than you started with.

If you fall into this camp, you needn’t worry, as we’ve explained everything you need to know about the Apex Rankings below. Into esports betting? We’ll also cover how the ranks affect the markets.

What is Apex Ranked mode exactly?

For those of you who are completely new to this, Apex Ranked mode is the competitive game mode. It works with a points-based system that is designed to match players of similar ability levels against each other.

  • Why can I not access Apex Ranked mode?

If you cannot find the ranked mode in your game, it will more than likely be because you don’t have access yet. To unlock Apex Ranked, you need to reach Level 20.

How the Apex Ranked levels work

When you first enter the Apex Ranked mode, you will start with 1 Ranked Point (RP), and you can then earn more by playing games. As you earn more points you will climb up the divisions and the Apex Ranks.

  • Does my rank from last season carry over?

At the start of every new season, your rank is reset. Additionally, there is a second midseason reset known as the “Split”.

However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have to go back to zero every time. Your rest point is calculated based on your final rank at the end of the previous season.

  • What is the lowest rank in Apex Legends?

The lowest rank is Rookie, which you start at with 1 RP. Here games will be relatively easy as you will play against other players who are also getting to grips with Apex Ranked mode.

  • What is the highest rank in Apex Legends?

The highest rank is Master and is only reached if you become one of the top 750 players in the world. As you may have heard, players in the Master Rank are known as “Apex Predators”.

How to earn ranked points

To move up through the ranks in Apex, you need to play matches and earn RP. There are three ways that you can earn RP in every ranked game that you play:

  1. Kills - The number of players that you kill is the most important here. However, your finishing place and the level of player you kill can also increase the number of RP that you get.
  2. Skills - Going on a winning streak, a top-five place streak, or killing high-level players will gain you more RP.
  3. Place - The higher you place in a match, the more RP you will get.

Why can I end up with fewer RP than I started with?

This is one area where the Apex Rankings are a bit different from most other games. From the Silver tier and above, it costs you RP to enter a match, therefore if you fail to win more points than it costs you to enter, you can end up with an RP deficit after a ranked match.

How much RP does it cost to enter?

Here is how many RP it will cost you to enter a match at each rank:

  • Rookie & Bronze: 0 RP
  • Silver: 20 RP
  • Gold: 40 RP
  • Platinum: 60 RP
  • Diamond: 80 RP
  • Master: 100 RP

Apex Ranks - Conclusion

See, the Apex Rankings in Season 20 really aren’t that complicated after all, are they? The only real difference between the Ranked mode in this game compared to others is the fact that it’s easier to lose RP because of the entry requirement.

However, the added jeopardy that this brings only makes the game more exciting, don’t you think?
