Grayhound said goodbye to Cologne after their loss against Imperial this Thursday. Previously they had faced Furia, which also ended in a loss for the Australians. Let’s take a closer look into this elimination match against Imperial to try and see why they suffered such an early exit from IEM Cologne 2023 Play-in.
This face-off starred by Imperial and Grayhound was set to be a Bo3 – the first for both teams at that point. Even though the scoreboard was quite close on the second map (Mirage), Inferno and Nuke were completely dominated by the Brazilians.
This first map was a total disaster for Grayhound, and this is clearly shown by the stats – keep in mind that this was Grayhound’s pick. The ratings given to Imperial players range from 1.21 to 1.73 – with Vini being the highest-rated player. As for Grayhound, the highest-rated player was Vexite with 0.71 and the lowest was Sico with a rating of, believe it or not, 0.29…
Not much to say about this map other than congratulating Imperial for the performance.
With their confidence battered, the Australians now had the chance to make a comeback, but it would have to be on Imperial’s pick…
Here, both teams showed rather convincing performances, and you could see that as the rounds developed. Not much of a lead was created by any of the teams – showing that, unlike in Inferno, Grayhound had finally stepped up their game. Deservingly, the Aussies took the victory and got the chance to play one more map.
And last but not least, we have to give props to aliStair for basically carrying his team on this map. He had a rating of 1.52 and a KD Difference of +14 (30-18).
Nuke was where it would all be decided – the loser goes home. Right off the bat, Imperial had one of the best starts we’ve seen in this IEM Cologne, boasting a 9x0 lead before Grayhound could score their first point. After this point on, a few rounds were exchanged but nothing close to something that could turn things around.
So, as expected after the great start from the Brazilians, Grayhound lost the map with a 16x8 and say goodbye to the competition.
