After Astralis took the first map, G2 makes an unprecedented comeback and is now in the IEM Cologne 2023 Semi-Finals. Let’s dive into the stats and some relevant moments of the match to get a feel for what went down inside the server.
The match between the two teams progressed throughout 3 maps. Here’s a rundown of the picks made by both teams:
We should remind you that all the map picks were won by the picker. Astralis won Ancient, G2 won Inferno, and the decider became a reality for both teams.
Ancient was a very close map – at least in the first half. G2 started out with the lead and managed to hold it until the sides changed (9x6 for G2). Despite that, Astralis’ CT side was very organized, and almost no breaches were found by Niko and his teammates. The game ended on a 16x12 in favor of Astralis.
As for individual performances, both teams had good and bad ratings. And the player of the map? We have to give it to dev1ce, who managed a 1.30 rating, 90.5 ADR, and a +5 K/D Difference.
With almost the same final score as we’d seen on Ancient, G2 took this map home on a close 16x13 victory. We could definitely say a lot about this match, but the highlight play from m0NESY has taken over the media.
The play consisted of an ACE while Astralis tried to enter the B bombsite. Mid-entry, m0NESY got the first kill with the AWP, followed by 3 taps with the Deagle, and ended with a not so beautiful, but effective, few shots to find the head of the last player. The main point here is that the score was 12x12, and this round practically guaranteed the map for G2. For that reason, even though he did not have the best stats, we rise m0NESY to the throne on Inferno.
On the decider, we did not see such a great performance on Astralis’ side, and the Bo3 ended when the scoreboard hit 16x9. The best players here were huNter, m0NESY, and Niko – who, together, carried G2 to this classification victory.
G2 will face either Ninjas in Pyjamas or Faze in the Upper Semi-Finals, and we’ll have to wait and see who will it be. Be sure to check with us to get the full coverage of the match that will show who will face G2.
