Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 5: Rift Zones, Loot Pool Madness, and Kevin Returns

OG Season 5 is back, and Fortnite’s gone full time-travel mode. We’re talking rift zones in the sky, biome mashups on the map, and loot pools straight from 2018. If you’ve been waiting for a season that brings back some nostalgia, this is it.

From the return of ATKs and Port-a-Fortresses to the reappearance of Kevin the Cube, Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 5 is an all-gas, no-brakes remix of one of the game’s most popular arcs. Here’s what’s landed, what’s changed, and why this update might be the most fun Fortnite’s had all year.

Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 5

Why Fortnite’s OG Chapter 1 Season 5 return is going off

Epic knows exactly what they’re doing with this OG reboot arc. We’re in a weird downtime between mainline Chapter 6 seasons, so instead of stretching out filler content, they’re time-traveling straight to the good stuff. Chapter 1 Season 5 always had that “playground with shotguns” vibe. Vehicles, rift mobility, broken loadouts, a moving cube that everyone chased and nobody understood.

Now it’s back until October 3rd, and it’s not just a visual reskin. The entire map layout, loot pool, and even SBMM have been wound back to mimic how Fortnite used to play. That means open lobbies, janky build fights, and an ATK doing donuts while your squad yeets shockwaves off a cliff.

A sky full of rifts: Map shake-ups

The second you hit the Battle Bus, you’ll see it. The Chapter 1 layout is back, but rift-glitched. Whole biomes from other timelines are stitched together across the island. It’s nostalgic, yes, but also a heap of fun.

Paradise Palms is back (but hotter than ever)

This desert POI is a straight-up sweat magnet. Everyone’s landing on the hotel rooftop trying to grab the Compact SMG and sprint downstairs before a third party hits the lobby. Vertical fights feel way cleaner than they did in OG thanks to better movement mechanics, and the rifts all over let you rotate or escape fast if things go sideways.

Paradise Palms is back

There’s just something hilarious about watching full squads decked out in FNCS skins jump into golf carts like they’re late for tee time. ATKs are back and fully functional. Four seats, drift boost, and enough jank to accidentally launch your whole squad into a Port-a-Fortress mid-fight. It changes early-game loot runs too. Grab a cart, hit two POIs, and be stacked by the first zone.

Lazy Links goes pro-am

Viking Village & snow-capped high-ground

Still perched above Snobby and looking as dramatic as ever. The waterfall zip-lines return too, which makes for fun disengages when things get dicey. Pros are already using Viking as a scrim spot. It's got a tight drop loop, good mats, and enough elevation for clean edits.

Kevin the Cube moves again

Mid-season, Kevin’s back. He spawned near Paradise Palms and is slowly rolling toward Loot Lake. If Epic follows the original Chapter 1 arc, that lake is about to bounce again. Literal bounce.

A look into the loot pool

Epic’s going full send on unvaulted content. This season’s loot pool is so chunky it basically feels like a LTM, except it’s the real thing. Weapons swap every week, but here’s what’s popping off right now.

1️⃣ Day-one unvaults you need to master
  • Compact SMG – Shreds faster than you remember. Spray meta’s alive.
  • Heavy Sniper – One-shot wall breaks and headshots. Feels illegal again.
  • Double-Barrel Shotgun – Two blasts. Zero chill. Up-close it ends fights instantly.

2️⃣ OG carry-overs that still slap
  • Pump vs Tac – The debate is eternal, and both are here. Pump hits harder, Tac’s more forgiving.
  • Drum Gun – Still melts at mid-range if you can keep it steady.
  • Launch Pads – Thank god. With all the high-ground plays this season, they’re a must-have escape plan.

3️⃣ Grapplers, Shockwaves & Rift-to-Gos

There’s no shortage of ways to zoom around the island. Grapplers are back for solo players who love the high-risk high-fun playstyle. Shockwaves are great for repositioning, or trolling your own squad into storm. Rift-to-Gos, pop it mid-fight and reset. Movement hasn’t been this fluid since Chapter 2.

4️⃣ New (old) ways to move: the ATK renaissance

If you missed the OG All-Terrain Kart era, you’re in for a treat. This thing drives like a couch on wheels. You can drift for speed boosts, climb awkward hills, and launch a squadmate off the roof with just the right ramp angle.

The Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 5 competitive angle

Epic’s also dropped two esports hooks for competitive players and grinders alike, and Fortnite betting sites are loving them.

Inside the OG Cup grind

The OG Cup is running every Sunday from August 17 to October 26. Solo point tracking, but played in Squads or ZB Squads formats. Account level 50+ is required to enter. It’s casual-friendly, but sweaty enough to make every late-game circle feel like a mini-FNCS. Even if you’re not going full tryhard, the rewards are decent and the matches are stacked with wild moments.

FNCS 2025 implications

The FNCS Global Championship lands in Lyon this September with a $2 million prize pool. And while the Finals will probably be played on a Chapter 6 build, pros are grinding this OG season to sharpen mechanics. The legacy loot pool forces smarter decisions, and you just know Kevin’s gonna mess with something before finals.

OG Pass rewards worth your V-Bucks

The OG Battle Pass is 45 tiers deep and free if you're on Fortnite Crew. If not, it’s 1,000 V-Bucks. It’s solid value for anyone even slightly active this season.

🏆 Reward 📝 Description
Redline Racer Instant unlock with classic 2018 vibes.
Riftreaver Drift Dark remix of a fan-favourite, alternate styles are a flex.
Tide Strider One of the cleanest gliders we’ve seen in a while.

Don’t stare at the cube too long

OG Season 5 isn’t just a throwback, it’s a full-blown brawl in golf carts with rifts exploding in the sky. It’s beautifully fast in that messy Fortnite way. Hop in an ATK, swing by Viking Village, and maybe save the double-barrel hero plays for when your squad’s actually watching.
