But how many skins are in Fortnite now? The number currently stands at 1,799 as of September 2024 and is always growing. Epic Games only adds Fortnite skins, it doesn’t delete them. While some older and exclusive skins are rare, none are taken out of the game completely.

  • However, you are not allowed to trade or sell Fortnite skins between players

How many skins does Fortnite have in total?

There are now 1,799 Fortnite skins for you to choose from, including free skins and those that you can purchase in-game. As we said above, skins are added to the game, but never deleted, meaning that this number will only increase.

If you have been playing Fortnite since the early days (2017/18) you will probably remember that it was normal to see identical characters everywhere. Nowadays, there are so many skins and other ways to customize your character that pretty much everyone is now unique in some way.

What are Fortnite skins?

For those unaware, Fortnite skins are basically outfits that form the overall look of your character. Initially, these skins were all original designs, and there were less than 100 in the game.

Now, there are over 1,700, including licensed skins from Marvel, Star Wars and other pop-culture franchises, as well as originals. On top of that, there are crossovers from other video games - such as Master Chief from Halo.

How many skins in Fortnite are collabs or crossovers?

A Guide to Fortnite Betting Handicap

So of the 1,799, how many skins are there in Fortnite that collaborate with film, TV, or other games? It was tough to get an exact metric on this, as we couldn’t find any figures directly from an Epic Games source.

Fortunately, though, the Fortnite community is large and dedicated. A Redditor on the FortNiteBR Subreddit counted all of the licensed and collab skins and found that there were 414 as of December 2023.

By now, there are probably a few more in September 2024, with plenty of others on the way given that Chapter 5 Season 2 has only recently been released.

How do you get Fortnite skins?

Now that we know how many skins are in Fortnite, let’s take a look at how you can get your hands on them. The easiest and most common way is to purchase them with V-Bucks, which is the in-game Fortnite currency.

However, there are some free skins available, particularly during big events. For example, most recently players could unlock Cerberus for free during Winterfest for Chapter 5 Season 2.

Other ways that you can get free skins include the refer-a-friend program and through a Fortnite Crew subscription. You can also get free skins in Save the World mode, but it costs money to buy Fortnite: Save the World, so we can’t technically claim it as a freebie.

Several different approaches have been used to try and determine the most popular Fortnite skins. However, since we’re here to answer the question of how many Fortnite skins there are, it’s only right that we measure the popularity based on the total number of players who have used them.

Here is a look at the top five:

  1. Aura - 11.4 million (3.927%)
  2. Surf Witch - 11 million (3.797%)
  3. Backlash - 10.2 million (3.517%)

  1. Aerial Assault Trooper
  2. Renegade Raider
  3. Galaxy
  4. Black Widow
  5. Black Knight

Can you buy, sell and trade skins in Fortnite?
