Fortnitemares 2025 Brings Doja Cat’s “Mother of Thorns” to Fortnite — New Map, Collabs & Twitch Drops

If you’ve played Fortnite for more than five minutes, you know October means one thing: Fortnitemares. And Fortnitemares 2025 might be the most stylish version yet, because this year, it’s Doja Cat’s world, and we’re just looting in it.

After kicking off on 9 October and running until 1 November, Fortnitemares 2025 brings a full Halloween-themed reload. There’s a new map for Reload fans (Nitemare Island), some genuinely excellent Twitch Drops, and a creepy cast of collab characters, from Jason to Scooby-Doo. If you haven’t jumped in yet, now’s the time.

Fortnitemares 2025

Fortnitemares 2025 key dates

The event officially began on 9 October 2025 – you may have spotted it on Fortnite betting sites with Epic’s blog announcing “Step into the nightmare now ’til November 1.” That means players across every time zone have just a few weeks to clear challenges, check out the new content, and grab time-limited cosmetics.

The biggest shift is Reload’s Nitemare Island, a custom Halloween-themed map that launched on 10 October. Add in Doja Cat as the villainous “Mother of Thorns”, and it’s a totally different look from 2024’s pumpkin-heavy theme.

Mother of Thorns takes over Battle Royale

Every year needs a spooky anchor, and Fortnitemares 2025 doesn’t mess around. Doja Cat’s “Mother of Thorns” is this year’s core villain. Epic describes her as twisting the Battle Royale into “her haunted kingdom,” and that aesthetic shift is obvious the second you hit the lobby.

It leans into her eerie floral theme, with thorny overlays, purple lighting, corrupted biomes, and it gives the BR mode a proper horror tone without dipping into straight-up jump-scare territory. If you’re queuing up solos, expect moodier lighting, atmospheric FX, and that signature Fortnitemares fog. There are also in-game event quests tied to the theme. Epic hasn’t dropped a full quest list on the blog, but you’ll spot objectives like defeating the Mother of Thorns boss and unlocking themed cosmetics through gameplay.

Nitemare Island lands in Reload

If Battle Royale’s where you vibe, Reload is where you brawl, and Nitemare Island makes it perfect for Halloween.

This new map dropped on 10 October and turns Reload into a more contained, more haunted fight club. The layout is packed with Halloween-ified POIs, including:

  • Spooky Suburbs
  • Haunted Hamlet
  • Terror Turrets

These names come straight from Epic’s reveal, and if you’ve played the map already, you’ll know each POI leans into classic horror tropes without becoming full parodies. It’s subtle, but it works, and for quick matches or warmups, Nitemare Island’s a solid rotation break. Reload itself hasn’t changed mechanically, but the faster pacing and tighter loop makes it a great pick if you’re short on time but still want that Fortnitemares vibe.

Collabs you can point to

Every time Fortnitemares rolls around, so do the collab rumours. This year, four major horror icons are confirmed by Epic:

  • Jason Voorhees
  • Wednesday Addams
  • Scooby-Doo
  • Ghost Face

All four were explicitly named in the Fortnitemares blog post, which means they’re not just leaks or Item Shop teases, they’re real, active parts of this year’s event.

That said, there are more skins rotating through the shop that haven’t been blog-listed. Some media outlets have called out bundles or hinted at extra horror icons, but unless Epic confirms it, treat it like speculation. The usual setup applies, collab skins typically appear as cosmetics, sometimes with mini-quests or unique emotes, but there’s no full map takeover like the old Marvel days.

Free stuff

Launch weekend came with two very solid Twitch Drops, assuming you were fast enough to claim them.

What was up for grabs

  • Treat Sack Back Bling - Watch 30 minutes of any Drops-enabled Fortnite stream.
  • Treat Axe Pickaxe - Watch for 60 minutes total.

Sorry to break it to you, but these ones are now gone. Hopefully Epic rolls out another mini-drop campaign closer to Halloween proper.

No tricks, just tips

If you’re logging into Fortnitemares 2025 for the first time this week, here’s a quick hit list of where to start and what not to miss.

1️⃣ Start with Reload

Nitemare Island’s got that tight, punchy loop that makes it perfect for hopping in fast. You’ll get the full Halloween vibe without needing to commit to a sweaty, endgame BR grind. It’s the fastest way to feel out this year’s theme.

2️⃣ Squad up for POI clears

If you're jumping into Battle Royale instead, hit Spooky Suburbs and then push into Haunted Hamlet. They’re close enough to sweep for loot as a team without getting split early. Classic Fortnitemares, but with actual coordination.

3️⃣ Check the Item Shop daily

The horror collabs rotate in and out, so if you’ve got your eye on Jason, Ghost Face, or Wednesday, don’t assume they’ll stick around. One login a day keeps FOMO away.

What else is happening in Fortnite this month

If Battle Royale and Reload aren’t your jam, there’s still some love for fans.

On the same day Fortnitemares launched, Epic also dropped the Fortnite Festival “Mixtape Music Pass”, which includes 10 new Jam Tracks for the month. It’s technically a separate mode, but it dropped in sync with Fortnitemares. Neat timing if you like seasonal music crossovers. Tracks span pop, rock, and Halloween-adjacent genres, and you can pick up the Music Pass directly in-game.

Pumpkin spice and pickaxe fights

Pumpkin spice and pickaxe fights

Fortnitemares 2025 brings the best kind of seasonal weirdness to Fortnite. Creepy without being corny, packed with cameos, and playable across whatever mode fits your style.

Doja Cat’s villain arc as the Mother of Thorns feels like a smart change on the usual pumpkin-zombie theme. Reload’s Nitemare Island gives us a whole new sandbox to blast through, and the collabs and cosmetics this year are better defined than usual. You’ve got until 1 November to grab everything. After that, the fog lifts, the thorny thrones vanish, and Fortnite returns to normal.

(Well, as normal as Fortnite gets.)
