Fortnite now has 31 Sidekicks, and the roster is growing fast with collabs like SpongeBob, Groot, and Towelie already in the mix
Most Sidekicks come through the Item Shop between 1,200 and 1,500 V-Bucks, though Peels came via the Battle Pass and Louis was a competitive event reward
Customization is permanent once you lock it in, so don't rush through the process unless you're sure about the look

Sidekicks have taken over as the must-have cosmetic in Fortnite, and if you've been away from the game for even a couple of months, you might be surprised at just how quickly the roster has grown since launch.
We've been tracking all Fortnite Sidekicks and how to get them since Peels dropped in the November 2025 Battle Pass. What started as one banana companion has ballooned into a roster of 31 in just a few months, so we thought it was time to lay out who's available, how to unlock them, and what the customization system looks like.
If you played Fortnite back when pet Back Blings were a thing, Sidekicks are basically the glow-up version of that concept, except they've got their own dedicated cosmetic slot now.
Your Sidekick follows you around in Battle Royale, Save the World, Fortnite Festival backstage, LEGO Fortnite, and some creator islands that have the feature turned on. They can't take damage and they don't give you any kind of gameplay edge, which is exactly how it should be in a competitive game. The community had some early concerns about Sidekicks acting as a visual giveaway in BR, but Epic thought that through already because your companion is only visible to your own squad. So if you're grinding ranked or playing in events, there's no downside to having one equipped, and they really add a bit of personality to your loadout that Back Blings alone never quite managed.
Not every Sidekick comes from the same place, and if you're trying to collect them all, it helps to know the different channels Epic has used so far.
Peels kicked the whole system off as a Battle Pass unlock on esports news pages back in November 2025, and it was a smart move by Epic because it meant practically everyone got to try out the new feature right away. We haven't seen another Battle Pass Sidekick since then, but knowing how Epic operates, it's only a matter of time before more show up in future passes.
This is where you'll find the majority of the roster, rotating in and out on Epic's usual shop schedule. We've tracked pricing across a bunch of them and you're generally looking at 1,200 to 1,500 V-Bucks per Sidekick, with companions like Kitsune, Kit, and Cupid Kitty sitting at that 1,200 mark while Pink Pony comes in a bit higher at 1,500. A lot of the Shop Sidekicks also come with bundled quests that unlock extra cosmetic items when you complete them, which gives you something to work toward after the initial purchase and adds decent value to the price tag.
This one's worth highlighting because it was the first time Epic tied a Sidekick to competitive performance. Louis was available as a prize in the Courage Icon Cup before eventually hitting the regular Item Shop rotation, which is a model we've seen Epic use before and one that works well. You reward the players who grind the event with early access, then make it available to everyone else later so nobody misses out permanently.
If you already owned the Bonesy Back Bling from a previous Battle Pass, Epic dropped the Bonesy Sidekick into your account automatically on November 7, 2025. That was a really nice touch that rewarded players who've been around for a while, and it sets a precedent that could easily extend to other legacy pet cosmetics down the road.
This is the part where you can really get caught out, so pay attention before you start messing with your new Sidekick's look.
When you pick up a customizable Sidekick, you get to tweak its appearance through the Locker before locking everything in permanently. Here's how the process goes:
That's it, and there's no going back on those visual choices once you've confirmed. We've heard plenty of stories from people who regret rushing through this step, so take your time and make sure you're happy with the look before you commit.
Epic does let you purchase the same Sidekick multiple times if you want different appearance configurations, which is a nice option for collectors. The catch is that each copy has to have a unique look, so you can't just stack identical versions. You can rename your Sidekick later through the Locker, though some companions are listed as non-customizable from the start, meaning you're stuck with whatever default appearance and name they come with.
The Sidekick roster has grown from one banana to 31 companions in roughly four months, and with competitive event rewards, collab crossovers, and a steady stream of Item Shop releases, there's never been a better time to start your collection. So make sure to keep watch on the Shop rotation for the ones you want!
