Yesterday we had the matches that decided who would be reaching the Lower Finals at ESL Pro League Season 18. The games were MIBR vs. Monte (2x1) and MOUZ vs. Heroic (2x0). Here we’ll dive into these two series by looking for some key points that led to the results seen.
MIBR
has showcased a mix of resilience and vulnerability in recent performances. Boasting a 50% win rate over the last three months, they clinched a notable victory in the ESL Pro League Season 18 against MOUZ but were thrown to the Lower Brackets after a loss against ENCE.
Over the past three months, Monte has achieved a win rate of 54.2%. Their recent performance in the ESL Pro League Season 18 witnessed a win against Rooster, but they faced setbacks against BIG – a loss that threw them to this match against MIBR.
This game was a treat for the viewers as MIBR was able to make a comeback after starting off losing their map pick (Vertigo) – in fact, Vertigo was a disaster for MIBR, losing it by a crushing 16x6. Up next was Anubis, where insani and saffee brought their A-game to secure a 16x12.
The decider played out on Mirage, a match that was also very close. Despite the pressure put on by Monte right off the bat (reaching a 4-point lead), brnz4n, saffee, and insani showed why they were to be feared. The result? MIBR is through to the Lower Finals.
Despite the head-to-head disadvantage on Heroic,
MOUZ
came into this match with a fresh win in the bag against Evil Geniuses – which was enough to make the players get over the loss against MIBR in the Opening Round. This meant that MOUZ had everything they needed to do well in the series against Heroic.
Heroic, on the other hand, had recently lost to BIG in the Upper Semi-Finals, a loss that seems to have shaken the team as a whole. So, coming into this match, cadiaN and his team were not in the best mindset.
The series was more short-lived than most of us expected, which came to a close on the second map. MOUZ had the first pick, which was Mirage. On this map, the individual and group performances from MOUZ shined through, leaving almost no chance for the Danish – but it was their pick.
The problems for Heroic came when their map pick (Nuke) started. After a good T Side (with 6 points on Nuke), Heroic was not able to find a defense against MOUZ. This led to a crushing 7 x 4 second half, which culminated in the 16x10 that we saw in the end.
