Gamers8 - Riyadh Saudi Arabia

ENCE faced Liquid during the Round of 16 for Gamers8 2023 in a Bo3 series. On one side, Liquid had not been having the best season up until this match, and the contrary is true for ENCE.

In this case, those who followed the past games’ results were able to predict the outcome of this match – a very comfortable 2x0 in favor of ENCE. In this rundown, we’ll take a look at both maps played to try and understand why ENCE was so dominant.

The Game

Map Picks

Below are the map picks for this series:

  • Vertigo (picked by Liquid)
  • Anubis (picked by ENCE)
  • Mirage (decider) *not played*
Vertigo

Vertigo was the closest map in the series, coming to a close only after the first overtime. This was anyone’s map, something that becomes clear when we see that the first half ended in an 8x7 for Liquid and the second half in an 8x7 for ENCE.

Despite that, Liquid actually had the upper hand when it came to the stats. In other words, individually, Liquid’s roster was better. While that’s a good indicator most times, CSGO is a team-focused game, and ENCE was able to steal the win after closing the first overtime with a 4x2 lead.

Anubis

In contrast to Vertigo, Anubis was completely dominated by ENCE, leaving no chance for oSee and his teammates. The first half ended in a 12x3 in favor of ENCE – even after losing the pistol round. In the second half, now as CTs, ENCE managed to close the game with ease after only 6 rounds played.

A few players were key for ENCE on Anubis – NertZ, dycha, and SunPayus. See below some of the relevant stats for each of them:

Player K (hs) A (f) D KAST K-D Diff ADR FK Diff Rating 2.0
NertZ 25 (13) 1 (1) 10 81.0% +15 116.5 +1 1.85
dycha 21 (8) 4 (0) 12 76.2% +9 108.4 +1 1.66
SunPayus 17 (5) 2 (0) 9 95.2% +8 75.4 0 1.40

What’s next?

After the loss, Liquid was sent home along with Furia and Falcons and is no longer playing on Gamers8 2023. On the other hand, ENCE is set to play against Cloud9 on Friday – with the winner moving on to the Semi-Finals.
Two more games in the Quarter-Finals will also take place on Friday. In one of them, the teams are yet to be decided, but the other one is between Heroic and GamerLegion, two teams that moved on after a 2x0 series in the Round of 16.
