Elisa Masters Espoo 2022: CS:GO at its very best!

This past weekend marked the end of an intensive 4 day offline tournament for CS:GO, the Elisa Masters Espoo 2022. It was also one of the few pro tournaments that have taken place in Finland.

Some of the very best teams in CS:GO from across regions came together to compete for a share of the prize pool as well as a seed to the IEM Katowice 2023 Play-In, which is due to take place in just a couple of months at the end of January. It’s safe to say that competition was pretty fierce!

Tournament format - something a little different

Fans may be used to the Swiss system format of a lot of other CS:GO tournaments, where not every team will play all of the others in the  competition. However, the Elisa Master Espoo was a little different! The first phase had two groups of 6 teams who battled it out in a round robin format.

But that’s not all! The top 3 teams from both groups proceeded to the playoffs that took place in 3 rounds. There weren’t really any surprises around which teams managed to make it through but some fans may have expected Bad News Eagles to at least make the playoffs, especially as they are one of the few teams who recently competed in the IEM Rio Major.

However, it was something of a wipeout for BNE after they went 4-1 early on and finished in 9th - 10th place.

Top teams - no real surprises here

The world of CS:GO can be a little predictable on occasion. NaVi, FaZe Clan, Liquid and a couple of others always seem to be on top at every tournament, including recent Majors. While you may be expecting Vitality to make this list, their recent performances have knocked them down a touch!

With most of these top tiers not competing in Espoo though, other teams were given a chance to shine. After a fierce couple of days, the top six teams revealed themselves:

• BIG
• Fnatic
• 500
• Astralis.

Fans will certainly recognize the likes of Astralis and Fnatic here, especially since the stomp of a final that saw Fnatic take the win but other teams, including 500, seem to have come from nowhere (well, through qualifiers!). Smaller A-tier tournaments giving other teams a chance to shine is why we love to keep up with them.

Every year, CS:GO brings the top esports tournaments to fans and bettors alike. It seems there’s pretty much always something going on, which means there’s always an opportunity to bet. The Elisa Master Espoo 2022 was a great end to this level of tournament for the year.
