didn’t think I’d still be wondering about this in 2025, but here we are. It’s July, The International is a couple months out, and somehow “Where’s the Dota 2 Battle Pass?” is still the question on everyone’s feed.
If you’ve been playing Dota for a while, you’ll remember how the old Battle Pass used to dominate the vibe leading into each International. Cosmetics, quests, ridiculous arcana predictions, and of course, that climbing prize pool graphic. But ever since Valve retired the TI Battle Pass model in 2023, there’s been this yearly limbo. So what’s the deal for TI14? Are we getting it back?

At the time of writing, Valve hasn’t said a word about a Dota 2 Battle Pass returning. No blog post. No teaser. Nothing official.
There’s plenty of speculation floating around. Streamer guesses, backend server discoveries, media hype, but nothing from Valve directly. So right now, it’s safe to assume we’ll either see another Compendium-style release (like 2023 and 2024), or maybe something new that sits between the two. But as for the classic Battle Pass as we knew it, no confirmation yet.
If you missed the shift, this all started in 2023. Valve straight up retired the old TI Battle Pass model. Their reasoning was that it had become too big. According to Valve’s own posts at the time, the Battle Pass soaked up so much development time that it left the rest of the year empty. They wanted to spread out updates instead of funneling everything into one annual mega-pass. Basically, it was a case of too much in one place, not enough everywhere else.
So for both TI12 (2023) and TI13 (2024), we got a smaller Compendium product instead. Lighter on cosmetics, heavier on digital event tools and eSports tracking.
To be fair, the 2024 Compendium wasn’t useless, it just felt underwhelming compared to what we used to get. Here’s what was included:
| 💡 Feature | 🔍 Included in TI13 Compendium |
|---|---|
| Immortals / Arcanas | No |
| Fantasy Esports Tokens | Yes |
| Team Stickers | Yes |
| Loading Screens / Sprays | Yes |
| Teleport FX / Effigies | Limited |
| Custom Game Modes | No |
| Cavern Crawl / Quest Line | No |
TI14 is locked in for September 2025, and it’s heading to Germany. That much is confirmed through multiple outlets, and the usual pre-tournament buzz is starting to build. Qualifiers are wrapping up, team socials are kicking off, and fans are eyeing plane tickets. But when it comes to how Valve plans to handle monetisation this time, whether that’s a Dota 2 Battle Pass, another Compendium, or something else entirely, it’s still radio silence. No blog post, no teaser, not even a vague tweet.
It’s giving déjà vu. This is now the third TI in a row where people are poring over data mines, patch notes, and backend server IDs like Dota’s suddenly become an ARG. At this point, Valve knows we’re watching. The question is whether they’re going to do anything different this year.

Alright, here’s where the rumour mill starts grinding. Lately, we’ve seen a bunch of signs that maybe, just maybe, something bigger is coming:
During a recent stream, TeaGuvnor casually dropped that “there are whispers of something bigger this year.” No follow-up, no details, but that one sentence lit Reddit on fire for a week. It’s not confirmation, but when respected analysts start hinting, people pay attention.
Sikle, an analyst with Team Spirit, reportedly spotted backend updates that might be related to a new content drop. Stuff like placeholder folders and server flags that usually show up ahead of events. Again, nothing with “Battle Pass” stamped on it, but enough to raise eyebrows.
Then there’s NS, a former pro turned commentator, who mentioned hearing Valve “doesn’t want a repeat of the 2024 prize pool embarrassment.” That’s not a direct leak, but coming from someone who's been around forever, it adds some weight to the speculation.
Dota 2 betting sites have flagged early storefront pings and server entries that look a lot like the groundwork for a Battle Pass or at least some sort of large-scale monetised event. Could be a bluff, could be prep… but it’s there.
Let’s think about it logically.
If you’re trying to figure out what’s coming, here’s what usually signals a release:
In the past, Battle Passes dropped in late August or early September. So we’re entering that window…

As of now, there is no confirmed Dota 2 Battle Pass for TI14. Everything we’ve seen so far is speculation, community chatter, and a whole lot of wishful thinking.
But we are in the right season. And the signs are flickering, even if they’re not glowing. So if you’re holding out for arcanas and a stacked reward ladder, maybe don’t uninstall just yet.
