Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz has formally extended his contract with the Danish CS:GO team, Astralis. Originally set to expire in 2025, this new agreement confirms his association with the team until 2026.
dev1ce's relationship with Astralis dates back to 2016. Over the years, he played a pivotal role in their victories. To put it into numbers, Astralis has secured 19 significant titles with his help. These titles include four of the coveted Major championships and the IGS (Intel Grand Slam) title – which prized the first team to win four S-Tier events.
After the announcement was made, Kasper Straube, Astralis' Sports Director, highlighted the importance of dev1ce to the team. In his words, dev1ce's dedication is clear and strong. Straube pointed out how he is an integral part of the team's strategy and success.
dev1ce's individual achievements in CS:GO are notable. He has been awarded the MVP title 19 times. Out of these, he won four with TSM, one with Ninjas in Pyjamas, and the rest while playing for Astralis. He's also made a consistent presence on the Top 20 Players of the Year list, making it eight times – topping out at the #2 spot in 2017.
There was a period when dev1ce left Astralis to play for Ninjas in Pyjamas. This move was during a challenging phase for Astralis when most of their matches were online. However, by October 2022, he made the decision to return to Astralis, reinforcing his loyalty to the team.
After the contract extension, dev1ce shared his thoughts. He stated that Astralis has always been his primary team. He expressed a positive view about Astralis' future and highlighted the importance of working towards continuous improvement. He sees the extension as a testament to the mutual commitment between him and the organization as a whole.
In the recent ESL Pro League Season 18, Astralis' performance showed variations. They recorded defeats against teams like Eternal Fire and Ninjas in Pyjamas. However, they also marked victories, notably against teams FURIA and ORKS. In these matches, dev1ce's performance was consistent, showing his value as a key player for the team – which might have been a deciding factor for the org to extend his stay so long before the end of the contract.
The contract extension between dev1ce and Astralis is a significant move in the CS:GO competitive landscape. It indicates both the player's and the team's commitment to further collaboration. As both parties look forward to the future, they aim to maintain their status and continue their successes in upcoming tournaments – especially now with CS2’s release and adoption.
