Detroit Lions Looking Good to Enter Play-off Picture

Form means everything in the race to enter the NFL play-offs and Detroit Lions are enjoying a rare run of success. The Lions fought hard to win the game against New York Jets on Sunday and now find themselves in with a real chance of getting a wildcard spot.

The game’s scoring opened with a remarkable 47-yard punt return from Lions’ Kalif Raymond before the Jets leveled things early in the second quarter. However, Detroit got ahead again with a field goal before the Jets did the same and both teams went in 10-10 at the break.

It took a late touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Brock Wright to give the Lions the 20-17 victory over the Jets and it represents just how much the team have turned things around since that horrific 1-6 start. If Detroit managed to make it through to the playoffs, it would mark the first time that a team with that bad a start had done it since Cincinnati Bengals in 1970.

Detroit have now won six out of their last seven games and stand at 7-7 in the NFC North. This has meant that most US gambling sites now give the Lions a much better odds of entering the play-off picture.

Tough competition in the NFC

So far, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys have clinched their NFC playoff spots. This leaves a fascinating Wild Card race with no less than six teams in the picture.

Leading the pack of New York Giants with an 8-5-1 record. However, it’s not going to be easy for the Giants as they face an in-form Minnesota Vikings who have a 11-3 record and just recorded the biggest comeback win in NFL history.

Next up are the Washington Commanders who sit just behind the Giants on 7-6-1. While even the most optimistic new US betting sites would have had long odds for the Commanders to make the play-offs, the team are still in with a chance. However, they have to travel to the 49ers who are now looking very strong on 10-4 after their win over Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks are also in the Wild Card race and now sit on 7-7, but they face an uphill struggle in their next game which takes place against the Kansas City Chiefs. This means that if the Lions win their next game against Carolina Panthers, they could be in control of their own destiny. Elsewhere, there is a very slender chance that the 5-8 Green Bay Packers could still make the play-offs although this remains unlikely.

Following the Panthers’ game, the Lions will entertain the 3-11 Chicago Bears and then travel to Green Bay for the final game of the season. This is a relatively easy run-in to the play-offs and all Detroit fans will eagerly be watching the sports betting news to see if this team can finally turn around their rotten form of the past few seasons.
