ESL Pro League Season 18 News

From October 2nd to October 15th, 2023, the gaming community turned its attention to one of the major events of the year: The “CCT South America Series 12”. Hosted online, this event drew 24 teams from across the continent, battling for a share of the $25,000 prize pool.

Group Play Highlights

A Group Swiss format was chosen, a method sought after for its fairness in competition. Here's a brief overview of the group stage’s highlights:

  • Meta Gaming BR: Dominated their matches, securing a 3-0 record. They bested teams like Boca Juniors, Intense, and ODDIK.
  • UNO MILLE: Also impressive with a 3-0 record, they outplayed BeBold, Solid, and MIBR Academy.
  • Sharks: Held a decent 3-1 score, having good games against FURIA Academy and Intense.
  • ODDIK: Achieved a 3-1 score, showing their skills against AJF and Sharks.

Playoff Details

The Round of 16 saw some exciting matches so far:

  • paiN Gaming managed to get a 2-0 win over Corinthians.
  • FURIA Academy also marked a 2-0 win, this time against Case.
  • W7M narrowly won against BeBold, ending at 2-1.
  • ODDIK clinched a 2-0 victory against Filhos de D10S.

With these results, paiN, FURIA Academy, W7M, and ODDIK have secured their places in the quarter-finals, but there’s more. With a few games yet to be played in the Round of 16, O PLANO, UNO MILLE, SELVA, Sharks, Fluxo, Solid, Bestia and MIBR Academy still have their chance at the Quarter-Finals. All of their games will be played today (Friday, the 13th), so don’t miss out on those.

Unexpected Turns

The event also saw unexpected events. Both WINDINGO and LRV ended up forfeiting their matches. These forfeitures certainly added unexpected twists in the competition, but it is still sad to see teams leave the tournaments.

Prize Breakdown

The prize money, which is a significant draw, is distributed as follows:

Position Prize Money
1st Place $11,000
2nd Place $5,000
3-4th Places $2,500
5-8th Places $1,000

And if you’re wondering, teams ranking from 9th to 24th won't receive cash prizes.

Wrap-Up

The CCT South America Series 12 is more than just a gaming event. It's a showcase of the ever-growing popularity of eSports in South America. With teams giving their best, fans are eagerly waiting for the final matches. As the days progress, anticipation builds, and soon the SA gaming community will crown its champion for this series.
