Buccaneers Land Massive Overtime Win to Boost Playoff Chances

Tampa Bay Buccaneers earned a thrilling overtime win over Arizona Cardinals to keep themselves in the hunt for a play-off place. The game was won 19-16 and it puts the Buccaneers play-off chances in their own hands. 

However, it featured another uninspiring performance from Tom Brady who needs to make big changes if he wants to lead Tampa Bay to another successful NFL postseason.

The Buccaneers are somehow still at the top of the NFC South with a 7-8 record and the team could easily lose their grip on a playoff place should results go the way of the Carolina Panthers or New Orleans Saints.

Buccaneers grind out another victory

The win over the Cardinals wasn’t pretty and the Buccaneers should have certainly made lighter work of their hosts who are stuck at the bottom of the NFC West on 4-11. However, Arizona managed to hold the Tampa Bay offence for much of the game and went into the fourth quarter leading by 10 times.

Thankfully, the Buccaneers kicker, Ryan Succop, came into his own and won the game for his team with four field goals including a magnificent 40-yarder in overtime.

It was another off night for Brady who appears to be struggling with his game. The legendary quarterback has now thrown two interceptions in three successive games for only the second time in over decades. Despite this, Brady still managed to grind out the victory and claimed his eleventh overtime win in regular season games.

Can Tampa Bay go all the way?

The Buccaneers next game is a huge game in the NFC South against the Panthers. This takes place on New Year’s Day and if Tampa Bay win, they would claim the division title and their playoff spot in the process. Although the NFC South is a relatively poor division, most US gambling sites would suggest that the Buccaneers have the experience necessary to win this pivotal game.

However, if the Panthers won, it would give both Carolina and the Saints the chance to jump ahead of the Buccaneers in the race for the playoff places. Tampa Bay can take some small comfort from the fact that their final game comes against the Atlanta Falcons on January 8.

The Falcons are currently on 5-10 at the bottom of the NFC South and while they can provide plenty of opposition, it would be a stretch to see them beating a Buccaneers team that most new US betting sites will be backing to win.

Reason for Tampa Bay to be hopeful

Although Brady is having a dip in form, the rest of the Buccaneers team are starting to look like a real unit once again. In particular, Chris Godwin had a good game against the Cardinals with eight catches for 63 yards, while Leonard Fournette rushed for 72 yards and picked up nine receptions for 90 yards.
