In an unexpected comeback, the underdogs, 500, get the W against Furia’s new lineup; Let’s dive deeper into this match to see how 500 managed to beat what is probably the best Brazilian team around.
The Round of 16 for the Thunderpick World Championship 2023 Series 1 was played in the form of a Bo3 (2 map picks for each team and one decider). Given the game’s result, 500 is now qualified for the Quarter-Finals and Furia is out of the competition for good.
The maps chosen for this series were Ancient (500), Inferno (Furia), and Mirage (decider). Since 500 is not the most well-known CSGO team out there, and with Furia trying ideas for the new lineup, the map picks were not too relevant and anything could happen regardless of the picks.
Despite the close scoreboard, Furia was very dominant on Ancient – especially after the first half of the map. The first half ended with an 8x7 in favor of 500, but Furia managed to find their game and make a convincing 9x2 T side that led to the end of the map.
Aside from Fallen, all players from Furia were very well-rated – all +1.19. At this point, having won 500’s map pick, Furia had everything in their hands to close out the series on Inferno.
Despite the momentum and the will to close the series, Furia did not show up on Inferno. The map was very short-lived with only 24 rounds played – 10x5 in favor of 500 in the first half and 6x3 also for 500 to close out the map.
The MVP for Inferno was definitely REDSTAR. He got 26 kills and a 102.9 ADR. Also, he was the best-rated player on the server with a 1.66 HLTV Rating. Add his impact on important rounds and it gets even clearer that he was the most important member of 500 on Furia’s map pick.
The decider was also very comfortable for 500. Despite a few close calls, Furia only managed to get the lead once, with that being reverted as soon as it happened. On the T side, 500 closed out the map and secured their spot in the next phase.
And if you thought that REDSTAR’s performance on Inferno would be the series' high point, you’re definitely wrong. In Mirage, KalubeR wrecked Furia in every way. He managed to take down 34 enemies, reach an ADR of 128.6, and get the best rating on the map (1.84) – stats that made him the name of the series.
