A Brief Guide on Hearthstone Odds and Bets!

Odds

There are three main types of odds formats used around the world. These are fractional (British) odds, decimal (European) odds, and moneyline (American) odds. Here is a quick breakdown:

  • Fractional odds (e.g. 5/1). The second number represents your stake and the first number your return. So, if the odds are 5/1, you will get a $5 profit for every $1 you bet (so a $6 return overall). Therefore if you bet $5, you will get $30 back ($25 winnings plus your $5 stake). A variation of fractional odds is called Hong Kong odds.
  • Decimal odds (e.g. 6.00, which is equivalent to 5/1). As you can see, decimal odds account for your stake and return within the same number. So if you bet $1 on odds of 6.00, you get a total of $6 back (your $1 stake and your $5 winnings). Simple, right?
  • Moneyline odds (e.g. +500, which is equivalent to 5/1 and 6.00). When moneyline odds are positive, the number indicates how much profit you’ll win on a $100 wager. So betting $100 on odds of +500 will earn you $500 in profit, meaning you’ll get $600 in return including your $100 stake. When moneyline odds are negative, the number indicates how much money you’ll need to bet in order to win $100.

Bet Types

There are quite a few possible bet types you can make, so we’ll just list the most common options here:

  • Match Winner: As a 1v1 game, with this bet type you simply choose who you think will win. The given odds for each match-up will generally tell you who is the favourite and who is the underdog.
  • Tournament Finalist / Winner: These are futures markets, where you decide in advance of an event who you believe will either reach the final of or win the entire competition.
  • Turn Bets: Similar to your standard sports totals (over/under) bets, you decide how many turns you think it will take for the match to last, either over or under the bookmakers’ suggestion.

Prop Bets: There are a few different options for betting on specific outcomes within a game or tournament. Options include certain cards appearing, which player will complete a certain in-match task first, and more.

Hearthstone Betting Basics

Hearthstone is a free-to-play digital collectible card game. Similar to Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering, it is a 1v1 turn-based game where the two players use their collection of virtual cards with the aim of beating their opponent.

Each player has 30 health to begin with and they use their 30-card decks - any combination of more than 3500 different cards - to get their opponent’s health down to zero first. At the beginning of the match, each player chooses from one of nine classes, each of which has its own unique cards and abilities.

There are four card types: minions, weapons, spells and hero cards. All cards also come with a mana cost (each player starts the game with only one mana point, earning an extra one with every turn), as well as effects and rarities - from basic to legendary - meaning players must strategize how and when is best to use the cards they have.

Official Hearthstone tournaments are generally played in the ‘Conquest’ format. This requires each player to bring a specific number of decks, with each deck utilizing a different class. Once a player wins a match, the deck they used is removed from the selection pool. The winner is the one who wins the best-of-match-up (usually either best of three or best of five).

So now you know the basics of betting on Hearthstone! If what you’ve read so far puts you off, then you may want to consider other eSports. We recommend checking our reviews on the best League of Legends betting site and/or CS:GO betting websites.

Our Top 5 Tips For Choosing the Right Operator to Bet on Hearthstone

1. Compare the Odds

The advantage of betting with the operator that has the best odds is obvious - the better the odds are, the higher your winnings will be. Look at it this way: if you win a bet at odds of +480 and it turns out that another betting site was offering odds of +510 for the same outcome, it’ll feel like you’ve lost out on the extra winnings.

2. Look at the Bonus Offers

Most betting sites have at least one if not more bonus offers available. These are a great way for operators to bring in new customers and to keep existing customers coming back. Every promotion on the market is slightly unique, and they all have their own set of benefits and flaws. You’ll soon find that some suit your particular needs better than others. So always take a look at the operator’s promotions and make sure they are useful to you.

This is even more important in eSports betting, as bonus offers dedicated exclusively to eSports are much rarer than their traditional sportsbook and casino counterparts.

3. Check the Operator’s Betting Coverage

Some betting sites have a greater betting coverage than others, and you don’t want to sign up to an operator just to discover that they don’t cater to the type of wagers you’re looking to place.

As with bonus offers, this is doubly essential when it comes to eSports. Though a quickly growing aspect of online betting, eSports betting is still a lot less common than sportsbook betting and casino games - especially when it comes to US-based betting sites, which are more strictly regulated than their competitors in other countries. So you want to check that the operator covers bets for your favorite eSports - in this case, Hearthstone betting.

4. Make Sure the Operator Is Worthy of Your Trust

With the recent spike in scam betting sites, it is now more essential than ever before that you make sure the operator is definitely worthy of your trust. If you are unlucky enough to fall foul of an unreliable operator, it is very unlikely that you’ll ever see the funds you lost again. So be careful!

5. Find Out Which Payment Methods the Operator Accepts

You may have a specific preference when it comes to the payment method(s) you use. Perhaps you add funds to your account using your debit card, or an eWallet. Whatever payment method(s) you do prefer, you’ll want to confirm that the operator accepts it (or them).

Our Top 5 Tips For Taking Advantage of Your Chosen Bonus Offers

Don’t Commit to the First Decent Offer You Find

As we said above, there are loads of different promotions out there, some better than others. So don’t just settle for the first you come across that looks decent - there will be many others that are just as good if not even better. Make sure you compare all of them!

Stick to Your Strengths

This links to our first top tip. Let us give you an example to put our point across. As you’re reading this review, we assume that your preference is for eSports betting. Let’s go a step further for the purposes of our example and imagine that you hardly ever bet on other sports or casino games. But then you find a very enticing promotion that requires you to bet on football. The amount of bonus money may seem too good to pass up, but if you aren’t familiar with football, you’re more likely to hurt your account balance rather than help it. So we suggest you stick to your strengths.

Always Read the Terms & Conditions Before You Commit to Anything

The terms & conditions are where all of the bonus requirements are stated - the wagering requirements, minimum eligible deposits, time limits, minimum qualifying odds, bonus codes, valid payment methods, etc. Thoroughly reading the terms & conditions before you commit to a bonus is a must if you want to fully take advantage of any bonus offer.

The wagering requirements are the most important of all. These are the amount of money you have to invest before being allowed to withdraw any winnings linked to the bonus. Wagering requirements are generally given as a multiple of the bonus amount or the bonus plus your deposit amount, depending on the operator. The lower the wagering requirements, the better the bonus. (Average wagering requirements are 35x, though they can go as high as 75x!)

You Need to Fulfill All of the Bonus Requirements

If you don’t, the bonus money plus any subsequent winnings will be lost. If that happens, all you’ve succeeded in doing is waste your time, effort and money.

Don’t Rush Into Anything

Imagine this: there are only a few more days before the time limit of your bonus offer expires, and you’re miles away from fulfilling the wagering requirements. You’re feeling the pressure.

In such a situation, you may decide that the best option is to put on loads of high stakes bets without doing much research. But rushing into your bets in this way will only result in unnecessary losses. And if by the end of a promotion you end up having lost more money than you won, what was the point of bothering in the first place? You need to take your time and research every bet you make; that gives you the best chance of earning a profit.

And don’t forget: the time limit only activates the moment you make your first eligible deposit or bet, or you opt-in. Make the most of the time before you activate the bonus by coming up with a betting strategy.

Now You’re Ready to Bet on Hearthstone!

You now know everything you need to know about betting on Hearthstone, from odds formats and bet types to the basics of the free-to-play digital collectible card game. You also know how to choose the betting site that best suits your particular needs, and the best way to take advantage of your chosen bonus offers. So, it’s time for you to get out there and start betting!

However, if after reading our review, you’re not sure whether Hearthstone betting is your cup of tea, you may want to try your hand at betting on other popular eSports instead. If that’s the case, why not take a look at our reviews on Heroes of the Storm betting or StarCraft 2 betting.
