Fortnite Droid Tycoon Beginner Guide Upgrade Strategies

Just in time for the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, Fortnite has launched another Star Wars-themed game to treat fans of the intergalactic franchise. In fact, Droid Tycoon is one of three Star Wars games added this year.

The aim of the game in Droid Tycoon is to build up your Droidsmith Base by collecting and creating Droids. Each Droid has different properties and can help you to achieve different missions. Understanding Droid types

The key to this game is, of course, the Droids, so it’s worth taking a few moments to get to grips with the different types. There are four variants of Droids and honing from worst to best, these are:

  • Default
  • Gold
  • Diamond
  • Rainbow

The higher the Droid variant, the more Credits gained when they’re working at your base. When Diamond and Rainbow Droids appear in the Jawa Conveyor Shop, a notification will be sent out but you might have to compete against other players to get your hands on the more valuable Droid.

Each Droid type also has an assigned rarity, which impacts how many Credits they build per second. You can work out a Droid’s rarity by looking at its background color:

  • Common (green)
  • Rare (blue)
  • Epic (purple)
  • Legendary (orange)
  • Mythic (red)

Top tips for Fortnite Star Wars Droid Tycoon

Now that you know a little more about the Droid types, let’s take a look at our top tips and hints for exploring the game:

Visit the Jawa Conveyor Shop often

The Jawa Conveyor Ship is where Droid blueprints are bought and sold, so it should be a regular stop throughout your play. Each blueprint displays two important details — the purchase price and the Credits generated per second. You should try to purchase blueprints that increase your Credit potential consistently and you can sell your old blueprints here, too. Keep an eye on your Droidex (a compendium of all 209 possible Droids) to see which ones you’ve collected and which ones are left. The rarest droid in the whole game is BB-8, which is only available during the BB-8 event.

Choose your Droid Companion carefully

As well as working in your factory, Droids can act as companions and add their own individual perks to your game. There are three classes of Droid Companion, all of which offer a specific bonus:

  • Worker - able to complete Worker missions. Worker Droids also have the Droid Crafting Speed bonus, which can improve the building time of Droids at your base.
  • Astromech - can complete Astromech missions and add an XP multiplier.
  • Battle - comes with an Increased Health bonus and can fight alongside you in Battle World Missions, giving you bigger rewards.

You can switch between Droid Companions at any time using the ‘Swap’ button.

Upgrade your Droids regularly

You can upgrade your droid by visiting the Droid upgrade vendor in a store located behind the cantina. There, you can upgrade your Droids in return for Upgrade Chips. As an illustration, the primary upgrade from the default to Gold rank costs five Upgrade Chips, but enhancements beyond this tend to get a lot more expensive.

But that’s not the only way to upgrade your Droid. You can also head to the cantina and find merchants and NPCs who may trade with you or let you gamble for a chance at an upgrade.

  • Quick tip: You’ll see Upgrade Chips scattered around the map, and win them by completing Daily Quests and Missions. As you explore, you might also come across random white crates. These crates contain mystery rewards like Credits and Upgrade Chips or, sometimes, a new hat for your Droid.

Sift through the Scrap Pile

Use your Pickaxe to give the scrap pile a good whack, and you’ll be rewarded with credits. Plus, doing this levels up over time, giving you more Credits and more options to buy the rarer Droids. It may not be the most interesting part of the game, but it’s worth devoting a bit of time to lining your pockets.

To make your swings even more effective, you can upgrade your Pickaxe by visiting the building to the left of the Cantina. This will make every swing more powerful and mean you can gather more Credits.

Look out for Side missions

You can gain Credits by completing Daily Quests. These are detailed on your Daily Quest Billboard at your Droidsmith base and can be accessed once you’ve rebirthed once (we’ll take a look at rebirths in just a second). There are three types of Daily Quests: easy, random, and hard. Easy missions should be open to everyone, but hard tasks will usually be reserved for later on in your play. Some missions will be automatically completed as part of your normal play. When you complete a mission, you’ll receive a random reward like Upgrade Chips or Droid blueprints.

Increase efficiency with an Enhanced Mandalorian Jetpack

Moving around the map can take a while. To cut down your traveling time, you might want to look out for a Mandalorian Jetpack. These can sometimes be found inside buildings or picked up from the Firing Range Station once you’ve rebirthed at least seven times. They’ll allow you to zip around much faster, which is especially convenient if a popular new Droid blueprint is announced.

What are the Rebirth requirements?

As you’ll know if you’re a regular visitor to Fortnite betting sites, Rebirths are a big deal in all tycoon games and allow you to reset your play in exchange for upgrades. You can see your Rebirth requirements at a kiosk found near the front entrance. The requirements will include having specific Droids and a set number of Credits but we liked that you won’t lose your Droids.
