As soon as I started writing this guide, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. I spent so many hours playing Spider Solitaire as it used to be one of the few computer games available to play.
I always found there was something both calming and exciting about building stacks and watching the cards zip across the screen when you complete a suit. Now, you can now enjoy these games at social casinos, which means you’ll be using virtual currencies, no real money involved. So if you’re looking to rediscover this game, let’s dive into it.
Let me tell you - as soon as I started doing research for this guide, I was immediately hit with all the nostalgia. I can’t even tell you how many hours I spent playing Spider Solitaire when I was young, back when every computer had it installed and it was one of the few games you could play. There was something very satisfying and therapeutic about methodically stacking the cards, finding those Aces and then finally clearing the full suit. So, I’m super excited to share everything I know about this game so that you can enjoy it too.
Spider Solitaire is not your average card game. It’s like Solitaire’s cooler, more strategic cousin. If you’ve ever felt like regular Solitaire wasn’t quite enough of a brain teaser, Spider Solitaire steps in to keep things interesting. This game uses two decks (yep, that’s 104 cards in total!) and it challenges you to sort the cards in order, from King to Ace, all in the same suit.
You start with ten columns - some holding six cards, others five - and the rest of the cards just kind of hang out in the stock pile, ready to be dealt out when you need them. And the end goal is basically to build full suits, but there’s a catch - you have to build them in order. It sounds simple enough, but trust me, with all the shifting cards, blocked moves and hidden cards, it’s a puzzle that demands patience, planning and a bit of nerve too.
Okay so now you’re ready to dive in - great choice! Here’s how to play Solitaire - specifically, Spider Solitaire.
First, ten card piles will be dealt out: the first four get six cards each and the remaining six get five cards. Then the remaining cards sit in a pile patiently waiting for their moment to shine. And now the fun can begin! All you need to do is start moving the cards but there are a few rules. First of all, you can only place cards in descending order, like placing a 9 on a 10 for instance, but you can’t place a 10 on a 9. It doesn’t matter what suits the cards are, it’s the numbers that are important. And if you’ve got a good set of cards in the same suit, then you can move them all together which is super handy. But if they’re mixed suits, then you can only move them separately.
If you get a little bit stuck, you can deal more cards out of your stock pile but make sure you do this strategically, otherwise you can get stuck. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to build full suit sequences from King to Ace. Once you do that, the sequence disappears and the cards start shooting around the screen and you can start celebrating.
Although you can’t win real money with Solitaire, if you play with Sweeps Coins, you’ll have the opportunity for prize redemptions if you win. However, you’ll have to meet the playthrough requirements before you can do this and accumulate a minimum number of eligible Sweeps Coins. The regulations vary depending on which social casino you choose to play at, so make sure you check the T&Cs.
If you’re like me and love to squeeze every drop of strategy that you possibly can out of a card game, then you’ll appreciate these top tips that have helped me out a few times.
When you start playing Spider Solitaire, some cards will be face up and some will be face down. The way to uncover the face-down cards is by clearing the stacks, and these are super important as it could be the key to making your next card sequence.
Empty spaces are pure gold as you can use them to move any cards you want there. So, if you have a very long sequence that is blocking a card that you need, then you can move the sequence over into the empty space and access that card.
Moving a clean sequence of clubs or hearts might be very tempting, but if it doesn’t lead to actual progress then it’s usually better that you just leave it be.
It’s important that you’re thinking about the current move you're making and also how that may affect the game in a few moves time. Really you want to open up new plays, so consider the moves that you make and how it’s going to affect your game in the long run.
Trial and error is part of the game and honestly, at first, there may be a lot of error and that’s okay. Undo lets you explore different outcomes without ruining your whole game so feel free to use it if you need to.
When it comes to playing Spider Solitaire at social casinos, there aren’t that many options I’ll be honest with you. There are two main options that I could find for you: Chumba Casino and DingDingDing Casino. These platforms are both social casinos which means that you will be playing with virtual currencies called Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins. It also means that because they’re social casinos there’s no real money involved which means you won’t experience the financial risks associated with traditional online casinos.
Chumba Casino has a decent game selection with about 200 on offer and most importantly includes Solitaire games. You can enjoy a few different solitaire game options and you can even grab a welcome bonus for signing up too. Spider Solitaire is one of those timeless games that manages to be both chill and challenging at the same time. Whether you’re a casual player looking to have fun or someone who thrives on strategy, it really does hit the sweet spot. What I love most is how every game feels different - some may be a bit easier, while others you might have to employ all of your strategies to get those card stacks.
But that’s what makes it fun! So whether you’re reliving the nostalgia or trying it for the first time, give it a go. And don’t forget - you can now enjoy it at social casinos, with virtual currencies. If you enjoy solitaire games, I’ve written other guides for similar games like Pyramid Solitaire.
Spider Solitaire is a popular single-player card game that uses two decks (104 cards in total). The aim is to build sequences from King down to Ace in the same suit. Once a full sequence is complete, it’s removed from the board and stacked neatly at the bottom of the screen. The game requires some strategy and a bit of patience so it’s perfect for anyone who loves a good puzzle.
You can play solitaire games at a couple of social casinos like Chumba Casino and DingDingDing Casino, both of which you can play games using virtual currencies. You can also play for free by claiming the new player welcome offers.
