What is Blackjack: Double Down Madness?

Blackjack: Double Down Madness is a relatively new variant, which was developed by Light and Wonder. It’s a simple take on the classic card game that uses a standard 52-card deck and gives players the chance to double down at any time. But if the dealer gets 22, then all standing plays will be pushed.

Keen to learn more? Here’s a quick run of the basic rules of playing Blackjack: Double Down Madness:

• Just like in traditional Blackjack, all the cards have the same point value.
• Initially, the player is given one card and the dealer is dealt two cards.
• One dealer card is face up, with one being face down (the hole card).
• If the face up card is an Ace, the dealer may offer insurance.
• If the dealer’s hole card is a 10-point card, all insurances will win at 2:1.
• If the dealer’s face up card is a 10 or Ace, the dealer may look at the hole card to check for Blackjack.
• If the dealer has Blackjack, all plays will lose, even if the player has a 10 or Ace.
• If the player chooses to double down and only has an Ace, they will get one additional card.
• The player may double down at any other time, with any number of cards.
• For re-doubling, the additional play amount is always double the previous one. For example, if it was initially 10 units, it would follow this sequence: 10, 20, 40, 80, and so on.
• Players are not permitted to split.
• If the dealer gets a total value of 22, all standing plays will push.

Double Down Madness Blackjack: Where to play

Blackjack Switch and Single Deck Blackjack are both widely available to play online. Unfortunately, while I have found lots of information about Blackjack: Double Down Madness on the Light and Wonder website, I can’t seem to find the game anywhere online.

That’s not to say that the game won’t be available to play online in the future, but at the time of writing this guide, I haven’t been able to locate it. For now, the game is available at the New York New York venue in Las Vegas and Isle Casino in Waterloo, Iowa, where it launched in July 2024.
